For the first time, 5,000 workers in Ho Chi Minh City can go on vacation with 10 billion VND.

On the morning of May 24, at Thanh Da Hotel (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City), the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation opened a vacation program for union members and workers.

As one of the 100 employees of the company participating in the first vacation, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Oanh, (56 years old), a sanitation worker of Binh Thanh District Public Service Company Limited, was extremely happy. In 2010, Ms. Oanh had a traffic accident on her way home from work, with a disability rate of 45%.

"The job of collecting garbage at night, being exposed to garbage and dangerous sharp objects such as scrap metal, needles, etc., plus work accidents have seriously damaged my health. Therefore, when the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Union organized a vacation, I was very happy," Ms. Oanh said.

Sharing at the program, Mr. Pham Chi Tam, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, said that the activities of the City Labor Union aim to help union members and workers regenerate energy, reduce stress and fatigue after hard working hours, improve physical and mental health, thereby improving the quality of life. This activity is especially important for workers working in toxic, arduous environments or suffering from work-related accidents and occupational diseases.

Mr. Huynh Van Tuan, Deputy Head of the HCM City Labor Federation's Professional Department, presented gifts to workers participating in the resort.

According to the plan, the vacation time for each period is arranged for 2 days (on Saturdays and Sundays) divided into 25 periods. The City Labor Federation will arrange for each district labor federation 200 union members and workers to attend. In addition, the labor unions of state-owned enterprises will be arranged for each unit to have 50 people.

The City Labor Federation estimates that the cost will be 2 million VND/person. It is expected that 5,000 union members and workers will go on vacation with a total cost of about 10 billion VND. In addition to blood tests, workers participating in the vacation will also receive advice on bones and joints, blood pressure, diabetes, etc. Along with the vacation program, union members and workers will also visit museums and historical sites in Ho Chi Minh City and tourist areas in Tien Giang and Ben Tre.

The subjects participating in this program of the City Labor Federation are union members and workers who have had work-related accidents or occupational diseases with a labor capacity reduction rate of 31% or more. Union members and workers doing heavy, toxic, dangerous work and especially heavy, toxic, dangerous work with reduced labor capacity during work, with annual periodic health examination results (current year or previous year) classified as health type IV, V.
