Ho Chi Minh City mobilizes more than 3,000 billion VND for humanitarian activities
On the morning of November 21, the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross Society celebrated the 79th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Red Cross Society and honored typical advanced examples for the 2020-2025 period.
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Phan Hong An, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) of Ho Chi Minh City, reviewed the 79-year tradition of the Vietnam Red Cross Society - a humanitarian social organization founded by President Ho Chi Minh and a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. He emphasized the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh, the Founder and first Honorary President of the Society: "We must start from a deep love for the people, contribute to protecting people's health and do everything possible to reduce their suffering."
According to Mr. An, Uncle Ho's teachings demonstrate the deep concern and responsibility of the Association's cadres towards the people. "This means - each cadre must put the people's interests above all else, always devote all his heart and soul to the people and do everything to reduce difficulties for the people," he emphasized.
In line with the vivid reality of the City in the new period, Mr. An suggested that each cadre and member of the Red Cross need to think thoroughly and find appropriate solutions to effectively implement social and humanitarian activities; participate in preventing and responding to natural disasters; provide community-based health care for people and promote the voluntary blood donation movement. He emphasized the need to strengthen the Party's leadership over the work of the Red Cross in the new period; promote propaganda about the values and thoughts of Ho Chi Minh on humanity and the activities of the Vietnam Red Cross; mobilize and attract more organizations, individuals and philanthropists to participate in humanitarian activities in diverse and appropriate forms.
Praising the achievements in the patriotic emulation movement of the City Red Cross Society in the period of 2020-2025, Mr. An suggested that the Society continue to promote its role as a bridge and coordinator in humanitarian activities; proactively propose policies and measures to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian work; strengthen international cooperation according to the basic principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement; focus on humanitarian diplomacy, attracting resources from the international community for humanitarian activities in the country.
The Vice Chairman of the City Fatherland Front Committee also requested the Association to maintain and effectively implement major movements and campaigns such as: "Humanitarian Tet", "Each organization, each individual is associated with a humanitarian address", "Humanitarian Month" and key programs to support poor fishermen, nutrition for disadvantaged children...
Summarizing the patriotic emulation movement for the period 2020 - 2025, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross Society Vu Quang Hung said that the total value of humanitarian activities of the Society at all levels in the past 5 years reached more than 3,000 billion VND, an increase of more than 20% compared to the period 2015 - 2020. The outstanding features of the Society in this period are diversification, flexibility and timely adaptation to new conditions in movement activities; innovation in operating methods, increased application of technology in communication and resource mobilization.
In addition, the Association has successfully implemented emulation movements to join hands in taking care of community health; promoted propaganda and mobilization of voluntary blood donation; participated in disaster prevention and response, attracting millions of agencies, units, businesses, individuals, and philanthropists inside and outside the city to respond...
Also at the conference, the Ho Chi Minh City Red Cross Society honored 75 typical advanced examples who have made many positive contributions to the City Red Cross movement, period 2020 - 2025 and expressed gratitude to the Society's leaders and retired officers.
Replicating effective models in humanitarian activities
On the same day, the Tuyen Quang Provincial Red Cross Society held a conference to honor and commend donors in 2025; to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, with the participation of 79 outstanding delegates of the Red Cross Society in the province.
Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee - Ma The Hong acknowledged, commended and highly appreciated the efforts, dedication and responsibility of the entire team of cadres, members, Red Cross volunteers and typical advanced collectives and individuals in the Association movement.
The 2025 - 2030 period sets higher requirements for humanitarian activities. The Deputy Secretary of Tuyen Quang Provincial Party Committee requested that Red Cross Societies at all levels continue to perform well their core role and function, coordinate and bridge humanitarian and charitable activities; proactively grasp people's living conditions; promptly advise Party committees and authorities on policies and solutions in relief and social assistance work; innovate operating methods, strengthen digital transformation, strongly apply digital platforms to manage information, connect resources, ensure publicity, transparency and efficiency.
The Association at all levels maintains and replicates effective models; participates in preventing and responding to natural disasters according to the "4 on-site" motto (on-site command, on-site forces, on-site means and materials, and on-site logistics); builds the Association's organizations and forces to become increasingly strong and widespread.
In particular, local Party committees and authorities regularly pay attention to and coordinate well the campaigns and movements launched by the Association. In the immediate future, the units will closely and effectively direct and create a widespread movement of "Humanitarian Tet" Spring Binh Ngo - 2026 launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society to care for the poor and disadvantaged so that everyone and every family can have the conditions to welcome Spring and enjoy Tet; carry out voluntary blood donation campaigns and events in 2026; organize the Congress of the Red Cross Society at all levels for the term 2026 - 2031...
Within the framework of the conference, a discussion was held with the theme "Good people, good deeds, joining hands to build a compassionate community" to spread the compassion; the companionship and response of the people and the silent contributions of advanced models such as cadres, members, volunteers and youth of the Red Cross.
On this occasion, the Tuyen Quang Provincial Red Cross Association awarded certificates of merit to 19 collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in the Association's work and the Red Cross movement in 2025; presented the "Recognition of Golden Hearts of Humanity" symbol to 62 outstanding sponsors in 2025; launched the "Humanitarian Tet" movement in the Spring of Binh Ngo - 2026 and received support from sponsors with a total amount of over 7 billion VND.
The whole Tuyen Quang province currently has 124 commune and ward-level associations; 2,875 branches with over 71,000 members. Immediately after the merger, the Red Cross Associations of Ha Giang and the old Tuyen Quang provinces coordinated to build a merger project, forming the current Tuyen Quang province Red Cross Association.
In the period 2020 - 2025, the total value of the Association's humanitarian activities reached over 480 billion VND, timely supporting more than 885,450 disadvantaged people. In 2025 alone, the total value of activities reached over 107 billion VND, assisting more than 150,000 people.
