Attending the event were Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung, leaders and former leaders of Can Gio Commune People's Committee, along with many local people and domestic and international tourists.
The festival is jointly organized by the Organizing Committee of Major Holidays of Ho Chi Minh City and the People's Committee of Can Gio commune to continue promoting traditional values imbued with national identity.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung said that this is a unique cultural event of Ho Chi Minh City - a place where the admiration for the ocean, the morality of "remembering the source of water" and the aspiration to go out to sea and stick to the sea of the fishing community converge.
Each festival season is an opportunity for people to express their gratitude to the sea, remember their ancestors and heroic martyrs; pray for favorable weather, safe sailing, and a full catch of fish and shrimp.
The festival has a long history, closely associated with the spiritual life of fishermen, was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013 and has become the pride of the people of the City named after Uncle Ho, and at the same time a cultural and tourist destination for domestic and international friends, Mr. Dung added.
This year's ceremony was solemnly held with the following rituals: Visiting the Rung Sac Martyrs Cemetery and the Rung Sac - Can Gio Heroic Martyrs Temple, along with traditional grand worship rituals, hát bội...
The festival is organized in a rich and modern way but still imbued with identity such as: Photo exhibition space "Can Gio past and present"; introducing the formation and development process of the festival; images of craft villages, fishing tools, seafaring life; along with community sports activities, beach games, traditional martial arts performances and folk games for all ages.
In addition, there is also a food court and a Vietnamese goods market introducing local specialties and OCOP products; encouraging the use of environmentally friendly materials and limiting plastic waste.
The Mid-Autumn Festival program for children with lantern processions, lion-dragon dances, and a creative playground themed "My homeland's sea and islands" will also help children understand and love their homeland's heritage more.
“I hope that these rich and diverse activities will create impressive experiences, spreading the image of a dynamic and hospitable Can Gio to tourists and international friends coming to the festival,” Mr. Dung expressed.
Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung emphasized that not only is it a big festival for fishermen, the event is also an opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City to introduce to friends near and far a unique land: Mangrove forest - the "green lung" of the City; architecture - beliefs of Ong Thuy Tuong Tomb, sincere and loyal Can Gio people...
Through the festival, we call on the community to join hands in preserving heritage, developing green tourism, creating unique products and services, and improving people's livelihoods. Contribute to building Can Gio into a "Safe - Friendly - Different" destination, Mr. Dung further emphasized.
On this occasion, the Organizing Committee commended and rewarded 25 collectives and fishermen with outstanding achievements in fishing, exploiting aquatic products, preserving and embellishing traditional craft villages and festivals.
