Commune leaders were 'surprised' to hear that Famimoto Company produced fake MSG and seasoning powder.

Regarding the case of Phu Tho Provincial Police temporarily seizing hundreds of tons of fake MSG, seasoning powder, and cooking oil of Famimoto Vietnam Company Limited, the leader of the People's Committee of Thuy Van Commune (Viet Tri City) said that the commune did not have the authority to inspect and the company did not report its activities.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , Phu Tho Provincial Police have just raided and urgently searched the factory and warehouse of Famimoto Vietnam Company Limited (abbreviated as Famimoto Company, in Thuy Van Commune, Viet Tri City), temporarily seizing hundreds of tons of fake MSG, cooking oil, seasoning powder, and broth powder.

Famimoto Company did not report its activities to the Commune People's Committee.

Talking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of April 27 about the activities of Famimoto Company, Mr. Luu Duc Tho - Chairman of Thuy Van Commune People's Committee - said that since he was transferred to become the commune chairman (1-2 years ago), he has seen the company operating. However, he does not know what the company is operating and what products it produces.

"From the outside, it looks normal, but we don't know how the company operates inside because the company doesn't report or coordinate with the Commune People's Committee.

The company was operating quietly and not as well known as other companies in the area. Suddenly, we heard the news that the police had searched and temporarily seized fake MSG, cooking oil, seasoning powder, and broth powder, then we knew" - Mr. Tho shared.

According to Mr. Tho, the campus and factory of this company is about 4,000 - ^5,000m2 wide. This is commercial and service land and has been allocated by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

"The company is only located in the commune, but the commune does not have the function of inspecting operations, including business registration licenses," Mr. Tho added.

According to information on the National Business Registration Portal, Famimoto Vietnam Co., Ltd. was established in March 2019 with Mr. Nguyen Van Hung as the legal representative.

Counterfeiting tricks of Famimoto Company

According to Phu Tho Provincial Police, initially, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - director of Famimoto Company - confessed that he bought MSG and cooking oil from Quang Thanh Trading Company Limited (located in Hoang Mai District, Hanoi ), then divided and packaged them into two types of packaging labeled "Boat Brand MSG - a brand originating from Singapore", and "Famimoto MSG - the leading MSG brand in Vietnam, Japanese technology".

With cooking oil, after purchasing, it is decanted and bottled into two types: "Boat Brand Premium Cooking Oil - a brand from Singapore" and "Fami Gold Vegetable Oil - produced from 100% imported ingredients from Singapore".

Regarding the raw materials to produce "Hanoi Premium Seasoning Powder" and "Hong Viet Kitchen Seasoning Powder", the Company purchases raw materials from many different units, then mixes them in a certain ratio, performs some steps such as granulating, drying... then packs them in plastic bags with the specification of 400g/bag for seasoning powder and 5kg/bag for seasoning powder.

According to the police, Famimoto Company self-declared all of the above products.

According to the appraisal results of the Institute of Criminal Science, the Ministry of Public Security's appraisal of the ingredients, quantitative and qualitative nutritional value of the above-mentioned MSG, cooking oil, premium seasoning powder and seasoning powder products packaged and produced by Famimoto Company did not meet the criteria announced by the company or the criteria stated on the product label.

Initially, Phu Tho Provincial Police determined that Famimoto Company had released 144 tons of cooking oil, 118 tons of seasoning powder, and 363 tons of fake seasoning powder to the market.

The police also clarified that more than 1,220 tons of MSG showed signs of violating label instructions.

The Phu Tho Provincial Police Investigation Agency has recorded a record of temporary seizure of 71,000 liters of cooking oil, about 40 tons of MSG (monosodium glutamate), 22 tons of seasoning powder, 9 tons of fake seasoning powder, nearly 84 tons of various additives used to produce and decant various types of MSG, seasoning powder, fake seasoning powder and nearly 1.6 million packaging shells, plastic cans containing products and packaging production lines.
