"Flip Side 8" warm fatherly love

After the success of "Flip Side 7", Ly Hai continues to exploit the theme of family in "Flip Side 8: Vong Tay Nang". If the previous part's highlight was mother's love, this part is father's love. Although the story does not have many unexpected twists, it still moves the audience with its message of kindness and profound family values.

The content of this part is the story of the journey to conquer the dream of the young music group The Light, living in the coastal area of Binh Thuan. The members are all students and young people who are struggling to make a living but share a passion for music. They have passed the qualifying round and are working hard to prepare for the semi-finals of the music idol competition. Tam (Doan The Vinh) is in grade 12, is a key member of the group, but faces opposition from his family. Tam's father, Mr. Phuoc (played by Long Dep Trai), wants his son to focus on studying to take the university entrance exam for Mechanical Engineering and then work at the company where he is a driver. The conflict between father and son is fierce. However, when Mr. Phuoc understands and agrees to let his son pursue his dream, a heartbreaking incident occurs...

Choosing a familiar, everyday topic, the film received sympathy from the audience when it clearly portrayed generational conflicts: parents want their children to have a stable, secure career while their children yearn for freedom to pursue their passion. The script cleverly suggests the reconciliation of family relationships. That is when the father learns to step back, care, and accompany his children; when the children learn to persistently pursue their passion and be grateful to their parents; when the whole family of 3 generations agrees on everything. And the audience also looks back, ponders to understand, share with the characters and for themselves.

In particular, the film moved viewers in dramatic scenes, showing the immense, warm love of a father, sacrificing everything for his children. The only twist in the film is probably the change in Mr. Phuoc's perspective and thinking. From opposing and forbidding, he turned to supporting, devoting all his money and even his life to fulfill his children's dreams.

The film also succeeds in establishing characters with everyday, familiar personalities: a grandmother who loves her grandchildren, a sacrificial mother, a father who is "cold on the outside and warm on the inside", enthusiastic but impulsive young people... Besides Mr. Phuoc's family, there is also the family story of Uncle Nhan (Mr. Phuoc's friend) and of Le, Thanh, Mi - members of the band. Each person has their own situation, but after all, they have found warmth and connection with their loved ones.

The cast of the film includes young faces emerging on social media platforms such as Doan The Vinh, Le Tuan Khang, Tin Nguyen, Le Huynh Bao Ngoc... to veteran names such as Meritorious Artist Kim Phuong, Meritorious Artist Huu Chau, Chieu Xuan, Tuyet Thu, Ngan Quynh... Each person plays their role well. In particular, actor Long Dep Trai in the role of Mr. Phuoc surprised viewers because he played a heavy dramatic character, completely different from his previous comedic or supporting roles.

Images and sounds continue to be plus points for the work as the crew has invested meticulously and carefully in each film. The music is catchy and appropriate to the scene. The main setting is Mr. Phuoc's family's house, which was also invested in by the crew to match the script to create the most realistic images.

"Flip Side 8" has a gentle family story and a positive message, but compared to the previous parts, the script has not made any breakthroughs. The way the situations are handled is somewhat safe, the conflicts and knots in the film are resolved quite quickly and easily. However, a warm story about family love, without a villain but the real "villain" is life with its challenges and adversities, is enough to move many people.
