(kontumtv.vn) – On the morning of September 25, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Kon Tum province solemnly held a ceremony to receive the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces for the collective of revolutionary soldiers who were captured and imprisoned by the enemy at Kon Tum Prison.

Attending the ceremony were Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Duong Van Trang; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of U Huan Province; Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Ngoc Tuan; leaders and former leaders of the Provincial Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Kon Tum Province through the periods; Liaison Committee of Political Prisoners of Kon Tum Province and relatives of revolutionary soldiers who were imprisoned by the enemy in Kon Tum Prison during the period 1930 - 1931.

Kon Tum Prison was built by the French colonialists from 1915 to 1917, initially to detain ordinary prisoners, and later used to detain political prisoners arrested in the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement (1930-1931) and patriots against the French colonialists. This place imprisoned 500 political prisoners and more than half of them died in prison or were buried along Highway 14 in Dak Pao to Dak Pek. Despite the harsh prison regime, the collective of revolutionary soldiers captured and imprisoned by the enemy sowed the revolutionary seeds of the Party in the Northern Central Highlands by establishing the first Party cell in Kon Tum province at the end of September 1930. Under the leadership of the Infantry Cell, the communist soldiers made righteous struggles from Kon Tum Prison. Notably, the Bloody Struggle and the Hunger Strike Struggle in December 1931. Thereby, it caused a great resonance in world public opinion about freedom, justice and human dignity, forcing the colonial rulers in Indochina to change the treatment of political prisoners in Kon Tum and the whole of Indochina. With this important meaning, on November 16, 1988, Kon Tum Prison was ranked as a National Historical Relic.

In recognition of the great contributions of the Collective of revolutionary soldiers captured and imprisoned by the enemy in Kon Tum Prison during the period of 1930 - 1931, on November 21, 2022, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam issued Decision No. 1384 on conferring the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to the Collective of revolutionary soldiers captured and imprisoned by the enemy in Kon Tum Prison for their outstanding achievements in the resistance war against the French colonialists.

At the ceremony, delegates offered incense and flowers to express gratitude for the contributions and sacrifices of the heroic martyrs.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Ngoc Tuan emphasized that over the past time, the cadres and people of all ethnic groups in Kon Tum province have always followed the example of the revolutionary will of the revolutionary soldiers at Kon Tum prison that year, striving to fight against the invaders in all periods, contributing to protecting the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. At the same time, he affirmed that with pride and deep faith in the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam and great Uncle Ho, the Party Committee, army and people of all ethnic groups in Kon Tum province are steadfast in the goal of national independence and socialism, determined to build a clean and strong Party Committee; improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the government's operations; consolidate and promote the strength of the great solidarity bloc of ethnic groups; effectively manage and exploit the resources, potentials and advantages of the province to promote industrialization and modernization, associated with building new rural areas, improving the material and spiritual life of the people; ensure national defense and security, maintain political stability, social order and safety...

The fact that the Party and State awarded the title of "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" to the collective of revolutionary soldiers captured and imprisoned by the enemy in Ngoc Kon Tum shows the Party and State's attention and recognition of the great contributions of the revolutionary soldiers; is an honor for the Party Committee, army and people of all ethnic groups in Kon Tum province and relatives of former political prisoners, thereby creating more motivation to strive to build Kon Tum province to become more and more prosperous./.
