This is an activity to celebrate the 49th anniversary of National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2024) and the 52nd anniversary of Quang Tri Province Liberation Day (May 1, 1972 - May 1, 2024).
In a solemn atmosphere, the national flag was slowly raised on Hien Luong Flagpole in the sacred and emotional atmosphere of thousands of people and tourists. At the ceremony, delegates observed a minute of silence to commemorate the outstanding sons of the homeland and country who sacrificed their blood and bones for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Attending the ceremony early in the morning, veteran Tran Quoc Dung, former officer of Hien Luong Armed Police Station, expressed his pride in the tradition of his homeland;
Veteran Tran Quoc Dung shared: "This day of national reunification was many years ago, the cadres and people of Vinh Linh were determined to keep Hien Luong bridge, protect the socialist land, including the People's Armed Police force specializing in protecting the flag and maintaining communication from the North to the South. At the same time, creating conditions for the people here to feel secure, trust in the Party's guidelines, liberate the South, and unify the country".
After the Geneva Agreement was signed on July 20, 1954, the country was divided into two regions, the North and the South. The Ben Hai River - Hien Luong Bridge, Quang Tri Province became a temporary military demarcation line. This place became a symbol of the pain of division for more than 20 years and the aspiration for unification of our nation. During those years, the national flag at the Hien Luong demarcation line always fluttered proudly in the wind, expressing the belief in victory and the aspiration for unification of the people of the North and the South.
At the Flag Raising Ceremony on the National Reunification Day, Mr. Hoang Nam, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, recalled the heroic and glorious memories of our nation, while honoring the immortal feats and deeply expressing gratitude for the great sacrifices of generations of fathers and brothers to protect the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. The Flag Raising Ceremony on the National Reunification Day reminds every cadre, party member and all people of their responsibility in preserving peace ; continuing to preserve and promote the fine traditional values of the nation.
Every Quang Tri citizen today deeply understands the pain and loss of war and appreciates the eternal value of peace.
Mr. Hoang Nam, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province affirmed that if war brings suffering to people, peace brings joy and happiness to people: “With a strong will, courage and a strong belief in the Party and the revolution, overcoming all the pain and cruelty of the war, the army and people of Quang Tri were steadfast, indomitable, and bravely held their ground and fought the enemy. With determination, not moving an inch, not leaving a millimeter, during those years, the flag on the Hien Luong bridgehead at the border bridgehead still proudly flew, becoming the belief and unifying will of the people of the two regions, the South and the North. That belief, that will turned into great strength, so that the army and people of Quang Tri, together with the whole country, stood side by side, overcoming thousands of difficulties and hardships, bravely fighting and sacrificing; Establishing glorious feats, shining the light of Revolution, known to the whole country and friends around the world, as a symbol of conscience and human dignity. People".
Within the framework of the National Reunification Day, Quang Tri province organized a traditional boat race on Ben Hai River, attracting a large number of people and tourists to watch and cheer.
