After two successful seasons and being honored in the Top 10 typical cultural events in 2023 and 2024 (voted by Sports & Culture newspaper), the Third Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF III) will officially take place from June 29 to July 5 in Da Nang city.
At the press conference on June 3, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development, said that compared to the previous two editions, DANAFF III has developed significantly in terms of scale, duration and program content.
The duration of the Film Festival has increased from 5 days in the previous edition to 7 days in this edition. The total number of films selected for screening in the Festival programs has reached 100 (compared to 46 films in the first edition and 63 films in the second edition). In addition, the number of film screenings has increased to 200 compared to 100 in the previous edition.

Speaking at the press conference, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan also said that this year, for the first time, the Da Nang Asian Film Festival has the program “DANAFF Talents” - DANAFF Cinema Potential Talents with training and connection activities, developing film projects for young talents. The program includes training and connection activities, developing film projects for young, potential talents in the field of cinema with the theme “Nurturing talent” in acting, “Project Incubator” for filmmakers.
Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan also said that although it was the first time it was implemented, the “Project Incubator” had received a lot of attention from domestic and international filmmakers, showing the increasingly clear professional appeal of DANAFF in its role of connecting and accompanying cinematic creation. The Organizing Committee selected 14 potential projects to participate in the development round.
The best project in the Asian art film category will receive a prize of 8,000 Euros from CNC - the French National Cinema Center, along with 3 months of intensive development support from Mylab - a mentoring and incubation program for independent film projects in Southeast Asia. In addition, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA) will also award a prize of 5,000 USD to the best project in the category of Vietnamese film projects of all genres.
Along with the talent support activities, a seminar on "Discovering and nurturing film talents: International experience and Vietnam's solutions" was also held, with the participation of leading lecturers, artists and experts in the field of film and training to discuss strategies for developing high-quality human resources for the film industry in the context of integration.
Speaking at the press conference, Associate Professor, Dr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, highly appreciated the Vietnam Film Promotion Association (VFDA)'s continued coordination with the Da Nang People's Committee to organize DANAFF III, creating a healthy and positive film environment, attracting an increasing number of domestic and international producers, directors and artists. These efforts have practically contributed to the industrialization of Vietnamese cinema in a modern, professional and integrated direction.
The Deputy Minister also affirmed that this year's Film Festival continues to mark a strong development step, affirming the role of DANAFF as a prestigious meeting place in the region. DANAFF is not only a place to honor outstanding cinematographic works but also a space for meeting and exchanging expertise between domestic and foreign filmmakers.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi - Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City said that the Da Nang Asian Film Festival is a testament to Da Nang's efforts in organizing and leaving good impressions, and this is not only an artistic playground but also a bridge between Vietnam and the world. The city will also create the best conditions in terms of facilities, infrastructure as well as other conditions for the success of the Film Festival, contributing to spreading the cultural values of Vietnam to the world.
This year's film festival includes programs such as "Asian Cinema Panorama" - a selection of outstanding and successful Asian cinema works at international film festivals in the past year, along with films that choose DANAFF to premiere.
This year also marks the appearance of the "Asian Film Critics Award" in the "Asian Cinema Panorama" Program.
In addition, the main program at the Film Festival is "Half a century of Vietnamese films about war" on the occasion of celebrating 50 years of national reunification.
The program was organized in coordination with the Vietnam Film Institute, introducing 22 typical works about war, produced after 1975, which were awarded prizes at the Vietnam Film Festival or international film festivals, many of which are loved by Vietnamese audiences.
Audiences also have the opportunity to meet and chat with famous artists and war filmmakers of all generations.
Also in this key program is the Workshop "Imprints of Vietnam's war films since the country's reunification", which comprehensively recognizes and evaluates the achievements, values and position of war films in the development of cinema.
There is also the program "Vietnamese Cinema Today" with 18 new Vietnamese films produced in the past year.

This year's Cinema Spotlight program introduces a series of Korean films to the audience. The festival's organizing committee, in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam, the Korean Film Commission (KOFIC), and the Korean Film Institute (KOFA), selected and introduced 14 representative works produced from the 1960s to the present through the program "Imprints of Korean cinema through each period of time". Among them, 3 films by veteran Korean filmmaker Im Kwon-taek will be introduced to the audience.
There is also a workshop "Korean Cinema: Lessons from international success and experiences in developing the film industry" to find experiences and lessons on how to create, manage and operate the film industry from many aspects.
The two main film categories include Asian Film with 14 films and Vietnamese Film with 12 films.
As in previous years, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and the Awards Ceremony of the Film Festival were broadcast live on VTV.
