On April 16, Doctor Duong Minh Tan, Director of Long Thanh District Medical Center, said that in the face of the complicated developments of the rabies epidemic in the district, the District Medical Center, the District Livestock and Aquaculture Station, and communes and towns are implementing many solutions to prevent the rabies epidemic from continuing to spread.
In the near future, it is expected that mobile teams will be established to catch stray dogs in communes and towns. The purpose is to limit the situation of stray dogs, which can pose a danger to passersby and other problems.
It is expected that in the second quarter of 2025, teams will be established to catch stray dogs in the district. Phuoc Thai and Phuoc Binh communes are expected to be established and serve as pilot sites.
In addition, the People's Committees of communes and towns organize many forms of propaganda so that people proactively and voluntarily vaccinate dogs and cats against rabies; do not let dogs and cats roam freely; how to treat wounds when bitten by dogs and cats and need to get vaccinated and get anti-rabies serum as soon as possible.
According to Dr. Duong Minh Tan, although there are regulations to punish violations in the management of raising dogs and cats according to regulations (such as letting animals roam without muzzles, not vaccinating dogs and cats against rabies), the district has not yet handled any cases. The Long Thanh District Medical Center continues to discuss with the district's Animal Husbandry and Aquaculture Station to find a solution to raise people's awareness and responsibility in rabies prevention.
As reported by Dong Nai Newspaper, Long Thanh district is a hot spot for rabies in the province with 5 outbreaks in dogs and 2 deaths due to being bitten by rabid dogs without getting vaccinated.
Since the beginning of 2025, the province has recorded 8 rabies outbreaks in 3/11 districts and cities. The remaining 2 localities with rabies outbreaks are Cam My (1 outbreak) and Dinh Quan (2 outbreaks).
