There needs to be a law and a bank for bone marrow and stem cell donors soon. The plan to establish this bank depends on the policies and laws on bone marrow and stem cell donors in the coming years and the documents issued for implementation.

On November 24, Ho Chi Minh City Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital organized the 7th Southern Hematology and Blood Transfusion Scientific Conference and the Vietnam-France Bone Marrow Transplantation - Hematopoietic Stem Cell Conference.

Dr. Phu Chi Dung, Director of the hospital, said that over the past 10 years, the field of bone marrow and stem cell transplantation in Vietnam has developed strongly with many new transplantation techniques and new transplantation centers.

If 10 years ago, many patients with indications for bone marrow - hematopoietic stem cell transplants did not trust the transplant technique in Vietnam and often went to Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan (China) ..., up to now, the number of cases requiring treatment abroad has decreased significantly.

This also shows that patients' trust in transplant techniques in Vietnam is on par with advanced countries in Southeast Asia and approaching those in Asia.

Although most bone marrow - hematopoietic stem cell transplant techniques in our country have been performed as in the world , there are still many difficulties and barriers when stem cell sources are limited in cases of allogeneic or allogeneic transplants. In addition, Vietnam still does not have laws and a donor bank for bone marrow - stem cells.

“We have to get resources from donor banks around the world, mainly in Taiwan and China. However, when we find a donor, the probability of successful transplantation is also low due to the large differences in genetics, genes... At the same time, we also face difficulties in importing some rare drugs and special drugs, which hinders the implementation of specialized transplantation techniques,” Dr. Phu Chi Dung informed and proposed that there should soon be laws and banks for bone marrow and stem cell donors.

The plan to establish this bank depends on the policies and laws on bone marrow and stem cell donors in the coming years and the documents issued for implementation. This is the basis for developing decrees, circulars and then implementing the bank for people willing to donate bone marrow and stem cells, in case the patient cannot find a donor in the family.
