A series of world-class billiard players participate in the SCTV Cup billiards tournament with record-high prize money

On the afternoon of May 14, Saigontourist Cable Television Company Limited (SCTV) held a press conference to announce the SCTV Cup 2025 International 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Tournament.

The SCTV Cup 2025 International 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Tournament is an international playground, gathering the top Vietnamese players and guests in the top 10 of the World Carom Federation (UMB) rankings.

This is the first time a tournament held in Vietnam allows all domestic players - regardless of professional or amateur level - to register to participate and compete with the world's top players.

Through its innovative organization, the tournament not only promises to bring top-notch matches, but also contributes significantly to the development of billiards in Vietnam, creating a launching pad for young talents and continuing to affirm the position of Vietnamese billiards on the world sports map. With the message "From unknown to legendary", SCTV Cup aims to become a prestigious, professional and long-term inspirational annual tournament.

The SCTV Cup 3-cushion carom billiards tournament takes place from May 25 to 31 at Ho Xuan Huong Stadium (No. 2 Ho Xuan Huong, Ward 6, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City). The qualifying round takes place from May 25 to 28, and the official round takes place on May 30 and 31.

The official round brings together 8 players, including 6 invited players and 2 players who passed the qualifying round. The players are divided into 2 groups of 4 players each, drawn according to the UMB ranking principle. The groups compete in a round-robin format, selecting the top 2 players from each group to enter the semi-finals to compete directly for the championship.

To date, the six guest players have been identified as the world's top players. Specifically, Tran Quyet Chien (ranked 3rd in the world), who has won the 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup four times.

There are also Tran Thanh Luc (ranked 5th), Bao Phuong Vinh (ranked 15th), Tayfun Tasdemir (Türkiye, ranked 7th), Heo Jung Han (ranked 8th), Kim Jun Tae (Korea, ranked 10th).

In particular, the prize for the champion of the SCTV Cup 2025 International 3-cushion Billiards Tournament is up to 500 million VND. This is a record high number in billiards tournaments ever held in Vietnam.

The organizers expect to welcome about 250 players in the first tournament.
