Ms. Le Thi Hoa (53 years old), is currently working at Dong Son Primary School (Phu Nghia Commune, Hanoi ). During her teaching career, witnessing many unfortunate children who do not have the opportunity to go to school, Ms. Hoa always feels troubled and wants to do something for them.

In July 2007, during a visit to Huong Lan Pagoda, Ms. Hoa found the quiet, airy space here very suitable for opening a class. She asked the abbot for permission and opened a class to teach children to read and write from September 14, 2007.

On two weekend mornings, she goes to the temple to teach special students from 6 to 32 years old. Most of them have diseases such as Down syndrome, autism, deafness, congenital neurological disorders, etc. In addition, her class also has students with difficult circumstances, who do not have the conditions to go to school and study.

Over the past 18 years, her class has welcomed more than 86 students from many places, of which 45-50 students attend school regularly.

Each student in the class has different difficult circumstances. Teaching is therefore never easy.

“For children with normal intelligence, I can teach them as much as they want, but here, it can take me several months, or even a year, to teach them a word,” Ms. Hoa confided.

There are children who cannot speak, so she teaches them basic skills to integrate with people around them. There is no special method, she only teaches with love, because "when you are loved, children will feel and learn with that same love."

But the journey was not easy. In the early days, Ms. Hoa had to face a lot of skepticism and criticism, being called a “spirit medium” and “crazy” for choosing to teach disabled children.

Even the children’s families did not support her because they were worried that her hard work was in vain. However, when they saw the children becoming more obedient, loving and gradually integrating into the community, the parents and families gradually trusted and supported her, accompanying her on this special journey.

During her teaching career, Ms. Hoa was scratched and bitten many times by students until they bled. But instead of being discouraged, she chose to love more.

“The children have suffered a lot, I cannot blame them. Only love can help them change,” she said, choking up.

Thanks to that, the children who were once shy, irritable, and fearful have now gradually become more sociable, sharing, and closer. These changes, along with the sincere feelings that the children have for her, have helped her understand the true meaning of the work of sowing the seeds of love.

Ms. Hoa will always remember the clear eyes of the little boy who could not speak, quietly holding an umbrella for a disabled friend in the rain. Khoa took the wool from his shirt to knit a scarf for her on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20. Khue - the little girl who used to be self-conscious because she could not walk by herself, thanks to the care of her family and Ms. Hoa, she was able to walk and nurture her dream of becoming a teacher.

Ms. Hoa was moved when mentioning Tuyen, the boy who brought her eggs as a priceless gift.

Those simple actions are proof of the children's maturity and a great source of encouragement for her.

To date, 43 students in the class have learned to read, write, and do math. Many of them dream of becoming teachers…, or simply want to become independent and useful people. For Ms. Hoa, that is the greatest reward in her life as a teacher.

"I just hope I and my children stay healthy so we can be together for a longer time," Ms. Hoa confided.

She gently advised: "Young people should cherish what they have today, share love with the less fortunate, and live a useful life for society."

In the middle of the small temple, laughter and stuttering reading still resound every weekend. There, the love of teacher Le Thi Hoa still silently gives wings to unfulfilled dreams.

With the heart of a mother, she is quietly continuing to write the story of kindness - where every word sown carries the appearance of love.
