“The greatest gift we can give ourselves and our children is the gift ofeducation .” More than anyone else, as a dedicated teacher, Ms. Nguyen Pham always appreciates the value of knowledge and wishes to convey those humanistic values to the younger generation.
Not only stopping at traditional classes, she organized a special class, where nearly 300 students from all over Vietnam have the opportunity to access international education, overcoming geographical and cultural barriers.
Heading home from halfway around the world
Ms. Nguyen Pham is a Vietnamese teacher in California (USA), who has been away from home for nearly 50 years. Although she has settled in a foreign land, she always cherishes a deep desire, which is to contribute to her homeland and bring good values to the young generation of Vietnam. With a passion for teaching, she understands the importance of education and always wants to build a healthy learning environment, encouraging students to conquer challenges in learning.
Realizing that learning English is becoming increasingly necessary and popular in Vietnam, especially in the context that not all students have access to quality courses, Ms. Nguyen cherished a plan to organize free online English classes for students across the country. The opportunity came when she learned that the Khan Academy Vietnam (KAV) program had brought Khan Academy - a famous online education platform in the US that is favored by many teachers - to Vietnam. She immediately came up with the idea of connecting and building English classes for Vietnamese students.
As a result, the "English Arts" class for students from grades 3 to 6 was born, with the participation of nearly 300 students from all over the country, realizing Ms. Nguyen's dream and opening new chapters in the students' borderless learning journey. The teaching content of the class is built on the English Arts courses on Khan Academy, not only focusing on helping students improve their vocabulary and grammar but also learning how to use English in specific contexts and topics.

Technology helps eliminate geographical distance
With over 30 years of experience teaching elementary and secondary schools in the United States, Ms. Nguyen has encountered many culturally, religiously, and regionally diverse classrooms. But her online English classes are even more special, because each teacher and student are in different locations: Ms. Nguyen is in the United States, while her students are spread across Vietnam, from Hanoi to the mountainous provinces and the Mekong Delta. To narrow the geographical gap and ensure teaching effectiveness, she has researched and combined many modern technology tools.
Ms. Nguyen uses Khan Academy to provide learning videos , readings, and homework, and relies on learning reports from the platform to adjust the content of the lesson. Online lessons take place via Zoom, combined with many interactive tools such as Kahoot, Quizz, Pear Deck, and Jam Board to create fun games, stimulate interest, and help students maintain concentration. Thanks to that, the connection between teachers and students as well as between students is always guaranteed, helping them feel more comfortable and confident in communicating and expressing ideas in English. Especially in a foreign language class, the opportunity to discuss and communicate regularly is an important factor to help students progress quickly and use the language more fluently.

Not only does she build a creative learning space, Ms. Nguyen always listens to students' feedback after each lesson, thereby adjusting the most appropriate content and tools to bring the best learning experience to them. This is the "key" to keeping her class lively and students truly "enjoying" this interesting learning experience.
The future integration of the young generation
Students participating in Ms. Nguyen's "English Art" class all have a basic foreign language foundation, but after completing the class, they not only use English more naturally but also develop many important skills. Lessons on a variety of topics and fields such as Science, Society, Technology, etc. have helped them practice critical thinking, reading comprehension and information analysis skills, presentation and writing skills. These are essential skills for future development, opening up opportunities for international integration and positive contributions to the community.
Ms. Nguyen always hopes that through the experiences in the classroom, students will become more confident in themselves, ready to face greater challenges in life and be steadfast in their studies and careers. More importantly, she hopes that this confidence will motivate them to contribute to their families, society and become responsible global citizens.
