This morning, October 29, Mr. Nguyen Hong Lai, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tra Tan Commune ( Da Nang City), said that the village with 11 houses on Ong Yen peak was suddenly completely swept away by floodwaters during the night.

The incident happened on the evening of October 27. Fortunately, the residents had been evacuated to other places beforehand so there were no casualties.

"Yesterday afternoon, October 28, I, along with the commune leaders and functional forces, went to Ong Yen peak to grasp the situation, as well as check the landslide status and visit the evacuated people," said Mr. Lai.

According to Mr. Lai, this morning, October 29, there is very heavy rain in the commune, the risk of landslides and flooding will continue to occur on a large scale.

The complicated rain and floods in recent days have caused 18 houses in the whole commune to be buried by landslides, including 11 houses on Ong Yen peak.

In addition, the floods also caused more than 30 landslides in the whole commune, with major roads such as National Highway 40B having many serious landslides. The inter-commune road also had many landslides, cutting off Song Y village, completely isolating the households living there...

The locality has also evacuated 64 households with 205 people in areas at risk of landslides to safety.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Lai said that this flood season is very complicated. However, thanks to the construction map of landslide locations that were warned before, the locality proactively developed a plan and evacuated people to safe places (interspersed with other houses or to the village cultural house, school), so there were no human casualties.

Mr. Lai also warned that with the rain getting heavier every day, the risk of landslides will continue. In the long term, the authorities need to survey and re-evaluate the geological layers of mountainous communes to find more effective prevention solutions.

According to the warning, in the past 24 hours (from 4am on October 28 to 4am this morning on October 29), Da Nang City has had moderate to heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain. The soil moisture model shows that the city is 100% saturated.

In the next 6 hours, Da Nang City will continue to have very heavy rain. Total rainfall is generally 20 - 40 mm, in some places over 80 mm; risk of flash floods on rivers and small streams in mountainous areas; landslides on steep slopes, land subsidence; risk of flash floods, landslides, land subsidence due to heavy rain or water flow may occur.
