Heavy rains since last weekend have caused flooding in southern provinces of Thailand, disrupting transportation on many roads and railways, Thai officials said on December 25.
Yala and Narathiwat provinces were the worst hit, with schools forced to close. Videos and images shared on social media showed homes and shops submerged in murky floodwaters.
Heavy rains and floods have affected the lives of tens of thousands of people in southern Thailand. People have been forced to take shelter on higher floors.
Heavy rain and rough seas have also caused at least seven ships and boats to sink in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea since December 22.
The State Railway of Thailand said flooded tracks forced trains traveling south to the Malaysian border to stop in Yala, 100km away.
Local authorities have advised people in southern provinces to be ready to evacuate if the situation becomes more serious.
