On the morning of October 1st, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, the principal of Luong Minh Ethnic Boarding Primary School in Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district, Nghe An province, said that due to flash floods and landslides, all students had to stay home from school this morning to focus on clearing mud and debris.

Accordingly, on the evening of September 30th, the district experienced heavy and prolonged rainfall. Around 10:20 PM, water from the stream suddenly rushed down, flooding the school. In just about 20 minutes, the fast-flowing water rose, submerging all the classrooms to a depth of more than 1 meter.
At that time, several teachers and nearly 300 boarding students were resting in the school's dormitory. Upon discovering the flash flood, the teachers settled the students in their accommodations and then worked together to move furniture and belongings from the classrooms to higher ground. However, because the floodwaters rose so quickly, most of the school supplies could not be moved in time.

Fortunately, the boarding school's dormitory is located on higher ground and was not flooded, so the students were unaffected. However, most of the books and school supplies in the classroom were severely damaged by the floodwater and mud.
The floodwaters have now receded, leaving behind a very thick layer of mud, 10 to 20 cm deep. Teachers, students, and parents are working hard to clean up the mud so that teaching and learning can resume as soon as possible.
Mr. Vi Dinh Phuc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Luong Minh commune, said that the prolonged heavy rain and flash floods on the evening of September 30th caused severe landslides in many areas of the commune. During the night of September 30th, the People's Committee of Luong Minh commune had to evacuate nearly 80 people from Dua village (Luong Minh commune) from the dangerous area.

In addition, many houses have been flooded with mud and rocks, posing a risk of collapse at any moment, so the local authorities are mobilizing all available resources to assist residents in relocating to safe areas.
Immediately after receiving the information, the working group from Tuong Duong district arrived at the flash flood-affected area to direct the response. The flash floods caused many houses to be submerged in mud nearly 1 meter deep. "We are stuck in the village because the road is blocked by landslides at both ends, and we cannot get out yet," said Mr. Dinh Hong Vinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district.
