Based on core criteria to choose the right industry

Dr. Le Viet Khuyen, Vice President of the Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges, said that the trend of opening majors is inevitable and is part of the development strategy of many educational institutions. This helps create competition, encouraging schools to improve quality to attract students. Students also have more choices, especially new majors that "anticipate" the needs of the labor market.

However, Mr. Khuyen also reminded candidates that there are currently some majors that, although having new names, are essentially just “old wine in new bottles”. Therefore, candidates need to carefully research the major they choose based on core criteria such as strengths, passions, job opportunities, avoiding sentimentality or following the crowd in choosing a major. In particular, in the current context, learners also need to equip themselves with a “lifelong learning” mindset and other important soft skills. If learners have a good foundation of professional knowledge, combined with technological skills and soft skills, they will certainly have more options in finding suitable jobs in the context of the current technology boom. The luggage that young people need to prepare includes necessary soft skills such as technological skills, foreign languages, especially English communication skills; teamwork skills, work management skills and self-study skills.

Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son shared: Choosing a career is not only a personal decision but also a way for students to contribute to building a sustainable Vietnam that is deeply integrated with the world. Therefore, students need to consider carefully, based on their passion, ability and the practical needs of society. In the context that fields of study are being greatly affected by the development of technology, students should proactively equip themselves with necessary skills such as foreign language skills for international integration, digital skills to master technology, critical thinking to solve problems and a spirit of lifelong learning to continuously improve.

Associate Professor, Dr. Le Huu Lap, former Deputy Director of the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, said that along with expanding training majors to meet the labor market, higher education institutions must pay special attention to training quality. Although the circulars and regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training on conditions and procedures for opening university-level training majors are currently relatively strict. However, in reality, initially opening new majors, schools also face difficulties, especially schools that do not have vocational linkages between the new majors and the old majors they have trained. Therefore, in addition to managing the project of opening new training majors and the roadmap to ensure training quality, the Ministry of Education and Training also needs to strengthen inspection, supervision and post-inspection according to its functions and tasks to ensure training quality as well as the rights of learners.
