The President of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), Madam Pang, and the FAT Executive Board have just reached a historic agreement when signing a television copyright contract worth 2 billion baht (nearly 1.5 trillion VND) with three large corporations: Gulf Energy, AIS and JAS.
This contract lasts for 4 years from the 2025-2026 season, including the entire domestic tournament system such as Thai-League 1, 2, 3, FA Cup, League Cup, U-21 and women's football tournaments. This 4-year exclusive contract for live broadcasting of Thai football in the country also has conditions to be extended for another 2 years if meeting the criteria in the agreement.
Notably, this amount is nearly 7 times the compensation of 360 million baht (272 billion VND) that FAT was forced by the Supreme Court to pay to its former partner Siam Sport due to breach of contract from the time of previous leaders.
After the Court announced the verdict, Madam Pang frankly admitted that the mistake belonged to the Football Association of Thailand and quickly acted to "rescue" the organization from this huge debt.
The new contract was signed as a spectacular "comeback" by the experienced owner, praised by Thai media as "the savior of Thai football".
Previously, the contract between FAT and Siam Sport was signed in 2011 and had a term of 15 years. However, in 2016, under President Somyot, the Football Association of Thailand unilaterally terminated the contract, leading to a lawsuit that lasted nearly a decade before ending with an unfavorable judgment in 2024.
Madam Pang's quick finding of a solution helped FAT escape in a spectacular way and avoid costly and deep economic deficits. Because the compensation of 272 billion VND, if delayed and resolved slowly, would generate huge interest at Thailand's current interest rates.
However, FAT still has a "not small amount of resources" which are the Thai national team levels with television rights that have not been fully exploited.
