ESPN reported that UEFA paid €233 million to 901 clubs from its 55 member associations, as compensation for their players' service to the national teams over the past half-decade. This amount was calculated by UEFA through the number of players of the clubs participating in the 2020/21 and 2022/23 UEFA Nations League, the qualifying rounds and the Euro 2024 finals.
Manchester City is the team that receives the most money from UEFA in this area (5.17 million euros), due to the number of players participating in European tournaments at the national team level. The two teams ranked behind Manchester City are Real Madrid (receiving 4.79 million euros), and Inter Milan (4.65 million euros).
According to the announcement from UEFA, clubs receive an equal amount of money for each player returning to join the national team (the amount is calculated per day), plus money for participating in each match in the UEFA Nations League and Euro qualifiers.
Clubs at all levels of the football system benefited, including Yorkshire Amateur, a 10th-tier English side, which received €7,300 from UEFA. The total amount UEFA paid to clubs for player releases increased by more than €70 million compared to the previous round.
