On the afternoon of June 2, Xuyen A General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City announced that it had just performed emergency surgery on a male iron worker who was stabbed in the lung by a flying piece of metal while working.
Previously, while cutting aluminum and iron, this worker suddenly fell to the floor. The company checked the camera and found no external force.
Wound of flying metal fragment pierced victim's lung
The victim was brought to the emergency room in a state of rapid shallow breathing, able to respond to questions but slowly, sometimes drowsy, with a very small wound on the chest, no hematoma, very painful; no signs of localized neurological paralysis or weakness.
Through examination, doctors discovered a metal foreign object measuring 4 x 0.35 cm located at the base of the upper lobe of the left lung, next to the lingual lobe bronchus, extensive contusion of the left lung, mainly the upper lobe, and hemothorax.
The patient coughed up massive amounts of blood after being diagnosed with a foreign object in the lung, and his blood pressure began to drop.
Foreign object removed
Immediately, the patient underwent emergency surgery to remove the foreign object, treat the injury, stop the bleeding, and save the patient from a life-threatening situation. The foreign object flew at high speed and severed the bronchial branch and pulmonary artery. The entire upper lobe of the lung was crushed, so the damaged part of the upper lobe was removed.
After surgery, the patient's health was stable and he was conscious. The patient said he was operating an aluminum and iron cutting machine at a company specializing in manufacturing pots and pans when suddenly a piece of cutting material flew out at an extremely high speed and stuck into his body without him knowing.
