According to financial news agency Bloomberg , Mark Zuckerberg met with many AI experts and engineers at his home in Lake Tahoe and Palo Alto (USA). The Meta boss wants to establish a secret team - known as the "super intelligence" group to realize his bold ambition. That is to surpass other technology companies in the race to AGI.

Once this milestone is reached, Meta could bring AGI to products ranging from social networks to chatbots to Ray-Ban glasses.

Zuckerberg wants to hire about 50 people, including a head of AI research. All of them are his own. He has rearranged the desks at the Menlo Park headquarters so that new employees sit near him, according to Bloomberg .

Zuckerberg is reportedly preparing to invest billions of dollars in Scale AI, a startup that provides data services to help businesses train their models. Founder Alexandr Wang is expected to join the “superintelligence” group after the deal closes.

Zuckerberg has made no secret of his desire to make AI a priority at Meta. Over the past two months, he has returned to “founder mode,” according to people familiar with the matter. His decision to hire him personally stems in part from frustration with the quality and response to the Llama 4 large language model. He has repeatedly told people at the company that he wants to have the best AI product in terms of both performance and utility by the end of the year.

The demands of Meta’s CEO put enormous pressure on the AI staff, who were forced to work nights and weekends to meet them. However, the model’s performance was questioned both inside and outside Meta. The company had to postpone the launch of its largest model, Behemoth.

In the wake of these missteps, Zuckerberg was forced to get more involved and consider forming a new team. He even started a WhatsApp chat group with senior executives to discuss potential hiring targets. They often chatted all day to find talent.

Zuckerberg hopes that with the new team, Meta will improve the Llama model and have better AI tools. It is unclear whether the “superintelligence” team will work alongside the old AI team.

Over lunches and dinners at his home over the past month, Zuckerberg has been courting AI researchers, infrastructure engineers, and other entrepreneurs to join his team, the people said. He argued that Meta’s advertising business was strong enough to support tens of billions of dollars to compete in the AI space, rather than having to raise capital like its rivals. Not only that, but his company also had enough cash flow to fund a multi-GW data center, creating one of the most powerful server farms in the world .
