VAECO staff covered the aircraft's landing gear and used straps to secure the aircraft's wheels.
The aircraft lashing was carried out by the Vietnam Aircraft Engineering Company (VAECO) - a member of Vietnam Airlines - from the afternoon of September 5 to ensure safety for aircraft currently in operation, maintenance and repair.
Accordingly, at Noi Bai airport, 15 planes were tied down; 6 planes under maintenance and repair were brought into the hangar to avoid storms; other planes in operation were moved to other airports with safety conditions.
In addition to tying and chocking the wheels, the plane's wings are filled with fuel to increase the plane's weight and limit displacement due to strong winds.
Each aircraft wheel cluster is secured with 4 corner wires.
2.5 ton concrete blocks are inserted into the aircraft's wheels.
Aircraft under repair and maintenance were towed to VAECO's main hangar to ensure safety against the complicated developments of storm No. 3.
The aircraft's wheel lashings are securely secured from the landing gear to the ground.
The ropes used to secure the aircraft have a load capacity of 11 tons.
Regarding Noi Bai airport, after monitoring the developments of storm No. 3, on the afternoon of September 6, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam decided to extend the temporary suspension of receiving and operating aircraft at this airport by 2 hours.
Specifically from 10:00 to 21:00 on September 7, instead of from 10:00 to 19:00 on September 7 as previously decided.
It is forecasted that after the storm, there will be heavy rain at Noi Bai airport, and the density of aircraft operations will be high.
Therefore, the Civil Aviation Authority requires airlines to direct flight crews to add extra fuel for flights between 9:00 p.m. on September 7 and 2:00 a.m. on September 8, in case they have to wait and divert to an alternate airport.
