"At around 9:00 a.m. local time on January 2, a Russian Aerospace Forces aircraft dropped emergency ammunition while flying over the village of Petropavlovka in the Voronezh region. There were no casualties," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The Russian Defense Ministry added that the incident damaged six houses. Authorities have opened an investigation into the cause of the incident.

According to Governor Alexander Gusev, some households in Petropavlovka have been evacuated to temporary accommodation centers. Authorities will assess the extent of the damage and proceed with compensation.

Videos circulating on social media showed the explosion leaving a large crater in the ground, with debris flying everywhere.

The incident occurred around the same time Russian aircraft carried out a large-scale airstrike on the Ukrainian capital Kiev and Kharkiv. Moscow is said to have used 99 missiles of various types, including 10 Kinzhal hypersonic missiles.

The attack killed at least five people and injured dozens, damaging much of Ukraine's infrastructure.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that it used long-range precision weapons and UAVs to attack Ukraine’s defense industrial infrastructure. In addition, the attack was also aimed at destroying missile and ammunition depots, including weapons provided by the West to Ukraine.
