Accordingly, after about 8 hours of flight, a 61-year-old male passenger, Vietnamese nationality, experienced symptoms of difficulty breathing and lack of oxygen. Immediately, the flight crew sent out a notice calling for support from doctors and medical staff who volunteered to be on the flight. With the cooperation of a passenger who was a doctor, the flight crew performed first aid and provided the passenger with an oxygen tank.
However, due to the serious health condition of the passenger, the flight crew decided to change course and land at the nearest airport, Erzurum (Türkiye), to promptly receive medical support from the ground.
Units at the airport coordinated quickly to approach the plane immediately after landing.
Passengers were transferred to local hospitals for further treatment, accompanied by relatives.
After completing the necessary procedures and obtaining permission from the authorities, flight VN37 took off again at 3:00 p.m. on May 6, 2025 (Vietnam time) to continue its journey to Frankfurt.
Although the flight was delayed by 6 hours, the decision to adjust the itinerary to provide timely medical support to passengers received the support and consensus of all passengers on the flight.

Although adjusting flight itineraries incurs many costs related to fuel, ground and rescheduling, the safety and health of passengers is always the top priority that the National Airline is committed to pursuing.
Previously, Vietnam Airlines has also repeatedly diverted landings to assist passengers with health problems.
Most recently, on January 11, 2025, flight VN1602 from Buon Ma Thuot to Hanoi had to divert to land at Da Nang airport to rescue a passenger in need of medical assistance. Or in December 2024, flight VN307 of Vietnam Airlines from Tokyo (Narita, Japan) to Ho Chi Minh City had to make an emergency landing at Taoyuan airport (Taipei, Taiwan, China) to rescue a passenger.
