After more than a year of appearing on the Internet, Mazda's new 2D logo was officially announced by the Japanese automaker at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. This new logo image was actually revealed in July 2024 through a trademark registration application in Japan, but has only now been confirmed.
The biggest change is the complete removal of the familiar metallic coating and 3D effect. The new logo has a flat 2D form. The outer edge is more rounded, while the previously soft, curved seagull wings have been transformed into straighter, sharper, more decisive lines.

Mazda has not only refreshed its iconic logo, but also added a new design to its lettering logo. The next-generation Mazda CX-5, which was just launched, has a new "MAZDA" logo on the tailgate and steering wheel. Similarly, electric vehicles such as the Mazda EZ-60 (exclusively for the Chinese market) or the EZ-6 electric sedan also use this lettering logo on the rear of the car. However, it is worth noting that the new CX-5 still retains the old 3D logo on the front grille.
Mazda told Motor1 that the new 2D logo will be used primarily for digital communications in the early stages. The Japanese automaker has not yet decided whether current models will completely abandon the old 3D logo, but confirmed that all-new models in the future will gradually switch to this new 2D logo.
At the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Mazda's concept cars such as the Vision X-Coupe and X-Compact both showed off the new lettering logo on the rear of the car and on the steering wheel. The duo is said to be a preview, representing the next step in the evolution of the Kodo design language. Observers say the X-Compact could become the Mazda2 in the future, while the Vision X-Coupe is likely to be used by Mazda to develop a rotary-powered sports car.
