According to a report by Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov, the test took place on October 21 and showed that the missile flew a distance of 14,000 km within 15 hours. He affirmed: "The technical parameters of the missile allow for accurate strikes on any heavily defended targets anywhere in the world ."

The Burevestnik’s unique feature is the use of a miniature nuclear reactor to power its engines, allowing the missile to remain airborne for years. This technology offers several strategic advantages: it reduces the risk of being destroyed in a preemptive strike by the enemy, allows for a show of force by flying close to enemy airspace, and can attack from unexpected directions where air defenses are weakest.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry , the investment in the development of Burevestnik – which is believed to be capable of carrying a nuclear warhead – reflects Russia's priority in strengthening its strategic deterrence capabilities. Commenting on the test, President Vladimir Putin affirmed that this was a testament to the "reliability of Russia's nuclear shield" and described Burevestnik as "a unique weapons system that no other country possesses." He added: "The next task is to determine the deployment plan and prepare the infrastructure for putting this weapon into service."

In his speeches to the parliament , Mr. Putin described Burevestnik as a missile with “unlimited range” and “invulnerability to all existing and future missile defense systems.” In the context of Russia’s PAK DA long-range strategic bomber program being behind schedule, Burevestnik is expected to take on a key role in long-range nuclear strike capabilities, including against targets on US territory.
Earlier, on October 10, President Putin revealed that Russia had made “significant progress in testing a new type of strategic nuclear weapon,” and hinted that this was the Burevestnik. In parallel with this project, Russia is also modernizing its strategic submarine fleet, putting into operation the Poseidon nuclear torpedo, and upgrading its intercontinental ballistic missile arsenal with new models such as the RS-28 Sarmat, RS-24 Yars, and equipping existing systems with the Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle — strengthening Russia’s position as the world’s leading nuclear power.
