The US National Weather Service has issued a heat warning for Miami and Los Angeles. The opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup will be held in Miami between Inter Miami and Al Ahly (Egypt).
The match is scheduled to kick off at 8pm local time, when temperatures have dropped after peaking at 32 degrees Celsius. However, forecasts show temperatures will remain at 29 degrees Celsius with humidity reaching 65%, which will make playing conditions more uncomfortable for the players.
After the opening match, Inter Miami will continue the match on June 19 at 3pm (local time) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where temperatures are expected to reach 31 degrees Celsius and there is a possibility of storms. Fortunately, the stadium has a roof, which will help reduce the negative effects of the weather on the match.
Messi and his teammates will return to Miami for their final group stage match against Palmeiras (Brazil) at 9pm (local time) on June 29. The temperature is expected to be more pleasant, at 27 degrees Celsius.

If Inter Miami advance to the knockout stages as group winners, they will play in Philadelphia, where temperatures are cool (around 19 degrees Celsius).
If Inter Miami finish as runners-up, both the round of 16 and quarterfinals will be held in Atlanta, where temperatures are likely to stay above 30 degrees Celsius. This will put additional pressure on players in a tournament that has already been criticised for its tight schedule and harsh weather conditions.
According to the Guardian , FIFA only mentioned applying cooling-break (a short break between matches for players to take in water) if the temperature exceeds 32 degrees Celsius.
The International Federation of Footballers' Associations (FIFPro) has also called for better protection for players: "With tournaments such as the Club World Cup having a tight schedule and hot climates in locations such as Orlando and Miami, heat is becoming a major issue affecting health and safety in professional football. FIFPro will monitor the situation closely in the coming weeks with the aim of prioritising player health."
