(Dan Tri) – With his virtue and intelligence, Trinh Phong was honored by the army and people as General of the Western Front, leading the Can Vuong movement against the French in Khanh Hoa . When he died, the people built a temple to worship him.

Trinh Phong Temple was built by the people in 1886, now in Dien An commune, Dien Khanh district, Khanh Hoa province, to worship Binh Tay General Trinh Phong. He was the highest leader of the patriotic Can Vuong movement in Khanh Hoa province.

Specifically, King Thanh Thai, the 13th year (1901), bestowed a royal decree on the temple "Dai Duc Khoi Tinh", to imply a hero who sacrificed himself for the country; King Khai Dinh, the 9th year (1924), continued to bestow a royal decree with the beautiful title "Duc Bao Trung Hung Linh Pho Thuan Chinh", referring to a person who helps the country and the people.

The life and career of General Trinh Phong of Binh Tay was compiled and printed into a book by the Department of Culture and Sports of Khanh Hoa province to be passed down to future generations.

Mr. Nguyen Duc, Deputy Manager of Trinh Phong Temple Relic, who directly looks after, preserves and burns incense at the relic, said that every week many people and tourists come to the temple to burn incense to commemorate and show gratitude for the great contributions of Binh Tay General Trinh Phong.

The relic also became a place to hold new party member admission ceremonies for units, contributing to fostering love for the homeland, strengthening revolutionary idealeducation , and fostering the will to strive for the young generation.

The roof of the temple is covered with yin-yang tiles, the top of the roof is decorated with the image of "Two dragons facing the moon".

In front of the temple there is an ancient Bodhi tree.

According to the Deputy Manager of the Trinh Phong Temple Relics, this Bodhi tree was planted by his grandfather when the people built a temple to worship General Binh Tay.

Recognizing the historical and cultural values ​​of the relic, in 1991 the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) issued a decision to rank Trinh Phong Temple as a National Historical and Cultural Relic.

According to documents from the Khanh Hoa Provincial Monuments Conservation Center, Mr. Trinh Phong was born in Phu Vinh village, Xuong Ha commune, Vinh Xuong district (now Nha Trang city). In 1864, he passed the martial arts exam and was appointed Admiral by the Nguyen Dynasty, taking office in Quang Nam.

After the French colonialists opened fire to invade our country, the Nguyen Dynasty court was divided into two factions, the war and peace factions. Faced with this situation, Mr. Trinh Phong resigned from office, returned to his homeland, and nurtured his will, waiting for the opportunity to repel the invaders.

In 1885, King Ham Nghi issued the Can Vuong Edict calling on the people of the whole country to rise up and help the king save the country.

In Khanh Hoa, Trinh Phong and many dignitaries stood up to establish the "Binh Tay Cuu Quoc Doan", calling on people to join the army, contribute food, train soldiers, and forge weapons to prepare to fight against the invading French colonialists.

Thanks to his virtue and intelligence, Trinh Phong was honored by the army and people as Binh Tay Dai Tuong, the commander of the army.

During the fighting, the insurgents initially won many glorious victories.

By 1886, France sent more troops and weapons to suppress the movement. Afterwards, many generals of the insurgent army, including Trinh Phong, were beheaded.

The Can Vuong movement in Khanh Hoa was suppressed, but the heroic, steadfast, and indomitable fighting spirit left a particularly deep affection in the hearts of the people of Khanh Hoa. The people honored the three leaders of the Can Vuong movement in Khanh Hoa, Trinh Phong, Tran Duong, and Nguyen Khanh, with the title "Khanh Hoa Tam Kiet".
