The model of "Rice jar of love" warms the hearts of women in difficult circumstances

The “Rice Jar of Love” model was established in 2023, initially with 10 members, and has now grown to 30 members. The rice jar is located at the Women's Union of Phuoc Truong A Hamlet, My Phuoc Commune. By participating in the model, women promote the spirit of solidarity, a healthy and simple lifestyle, always practice thrift, avoid extravagance and waste, and are willing to help everyone overcome difficulties together.

As one of the active members of the “Rice Jar of Love” model, not only did Ms. Nguyen Thi An contribute directly, but she also mobilized many benefactors to support rice for the model. Ms. An shared: “I found this model very meaningful so I voluntarily registered to participate, although some of the sisters in the group were also facing difficulties, they still actively contributed within their family’s capacity. Although the amount of rice given was not much, it was the sentiment of our sisters encouraging each other to strive to improve in life.”

Specifically, every month on the regular day of the "Rice Jar of Love" model, the sisters will bring rice or money to contribute to the model. The sisters' contributions are based on the spirit of volunteerism, those who have more will contribute more, those who have less will contribute less. The contributed rice will be considered for giving to women's union members and people in difficult circumstances in the area. On average, each month, 3-5 women will be given 10kg of rice to each woman. In addition, if members or people in difficult circumstances in Phuoc Truong A hamlet or neighboring hamlets have a funeral or accident, the rice jar will be opened to provide emergency support. In 2024 alone, the model supported 90 women with 900kg of rice, and supported 3 funerals of members' families in difficult circumstances with 110kg of rice.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Y - President of the Women's Union of My Phuoc commune said: "With the motto of supporting those who need it, and sharing those who have it. The model not only provides practical support to member families and women in difficult times, but also promotesand educates the moral values ​​of Soc Trang women: loyalty, confidence, and creativity. This is a practical and effective model associated with the movement to study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh and contributes to the effective implementation of social security work in the area...".

It is known that not only saving rice, the saving consciousness of women is also flexibly applied in daily life such as: saving electricity, water, saving in spending every time going to the market... The money saved is used by women to invest in their children's education or buy some household items... Along with the model of "Rice jar of affection", the Women's Union of My Phuoc commune also effectively maintains the movement of women helping each other through the model of revolving savings capital contribution without interest, so that women have more capital to invest in developing livestock and production, helping members to escape poverty sustainably. In 2024, 28 women members escaped poverty.

Studying and following Uncle Ho's moral example, the "Rice Jar of Love" model has been achieving encouraging results, gradually improving the quality of activities of the Women's Union at the grassroots level and practically caring for the lives of members and women in the area. In recognition of these results, the "Rice Jar of Love" model of the Women's Union of Phuoc Truong A Hamlet was awarded a certificate of merit by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union and was awarded a certificate of merit by the Chairman of the People's Committee of My Tu District for its outstanding achievements in studying and following the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh .

Beyond the practical meaning of material value, the model of “Rice jar of affection” has truly promoted the spirit of “mutual love”, “the rich help the poor”, solidarity to help each other escape poverty, and strive to do business of the members and women. Thereby, the village and neighborhood relationship is increasingly connected, people live with more affection and attachment to each other.
