From a remote, underdeveloped fishing village, Binh Minh commune is undergoing rapid transformation day by day and is very close to becoming a new urban area.

The Binh Minh New Urban Area is planned as one of four new urban areas to be formed by 2025 according to the Quang Nam province's urban system development plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

Along with Duy Hai and Duy Nghia communes (Duy Xuyen district), Binh Minh is one of two newly planned urban areas in the coastal region, with significant changes in its urban landscape in recent times.

Currently, there are two large-scale tourism projects in Binh Minh commune: the Vinpearl Nam Hoi An resort complex and the Bliss Hoi An Beach Resort & Wellness.

Besides promoting the attraction of large-scale investment projects to develop tourism, the local government has also identified the development of a community-based tourism model combined with traditional craft villages in the existing residential areas of Tan An and Binh Tinh villages.

According to Mr. Vo Van Hung, Chairman of the Thang Binh District People's Committee, the planning aims to develop Binh Minh into a sub-regional center, serving the resettlement needs of the coastal area; and at the same time providing labor for tourist and resort areas in this region.

With its central location in the province, the main spatial axes for urban development in Binh Minh will be organized into 10 axes connecting North-South and East-West.

According to the Department of Construction, in addition to the main North-South axis, Vo Chi Cong road, connecting coastal towns such as Dien Nam - Dien Ngoc, Hoi An, Duy Hai - Duy Nghia, Binh Minh, Tam Phu, and Tam Hoa, three other North-South axes will be organized to connect existing central areas with commercial, service, and tourism service areas in the North and South of the city.

In addition, six East-West axes are planned to connect Binh Minh urban area with the western urban area, including: Cay Coc road to Binh Minh beach - new National Highway 14E, DH9.TB road and four newly planned roads.

According to the General Urban Planning Project for the new Binh Minh urban area in Thang Binh district, for the period up to 2030 and 2045, approved by the Provincial People's Committee, many new kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools, and the Binh Minh commune health station will be built and expanded.

Notably, a new general hospital will be built; and efforts will be made to promote and attract investment in private hospitals to meet the healthcare needs of the people in each stage of development.

It is projected that the population of the new Binh Minh urban area will reach approximately 25,000 people by 2030 and around 55,000 people by 2045. The Provincial People's Committee has instructed relevant parties to complete the Binh Minh Urban Development Program by October 2025; and to submit the proposal for urban classification recognition by November 2025 to finalize the formation of the new Binh Minh urban area in 2025.
