During his working visit to the Kingdom of Denmark, on the morning of November 25 (local time), Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha met with Danish Minister of Environment and Gender Equality Magnus Johannes Heunicke to discuss environmental cooperation and related fields between Vietnam and Denmark.
At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that Vietnam always attaches importance to its cooperative relationship with Denmark, highly appreciating Denmark as a pioneer in sustainable development and green transformation. Vietnam wishes to learn from Denmark’s experience and cooperate with Denmark in the above fields in line with the strengths and development priorities of the two countries.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha expressed his delight that after more than 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, cooperation between the two countries is developing extensively and effectively in all fields, especially in the fields of climate and environment, with important cooperation frameworks established such as the Strategic Partnership in the fields of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Green Growth (2011), Comprehensive Partnership (2013) and Green Strategic Partnership (2023).
The Deputy Prime Minister thanked Denmark for accompanying and supporting Vietnam in responding to climate change, implementing many cooperation projects in the fields of energy, resources, environment and green growth, sharing the challenges and difficulties that Vietnam is facing, as well as Denmark's goodwill and determination in promoting cooperation to meet the interests and development priorities of the two countries in the new period.
The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the two sides effectively implement the Vietnam-Denmark Joint Action Plan for the 2024-2025 period to implement the Green Strategic Partnership and Comprehensive Partnership after it is approved; continue to promote cooperation between state management agencies, especially between the two ministries in charge of natural resources and climate, and connect businesses and localities of the two countries in a joint effort to promote green transformation.
The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in resource management, environmental and natural protection, and expand cooperation in effective water resource management, waste treatment (especially wastewater and plastic waste), and pollution control; Denmark supports Vietnam in improving the resilience of communities vulnerable to climate change, especially in the Mekong Delta.
Regarding the 4th Summit of the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) 2025 hosted by Vietnam, the Deputy Prime Minister reiterated Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh 's invitation to Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen to visit Vietnam and attend the P4G Summit in April 2025; requested Denmark to support the contents and proposals of the host country Vietnam, assist Vietnam in developing the theme and experience in organizing the Summit; at the same time, invited Danish Minister of Environment and Gender Equality Magnus Johannes Heunicke to visit Vietnam and attend the Summit.
Minister Magnus Johannes Heunicke welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha's working visit to Denmark, and affirmed that the establishment of the Green Strategic Partnership in November 2023 between Vietnam and Denmark is of great significance in cooperation on sustainable development, green transformation, energy transformation and environmental protection.
As two maritime nations, Denmark and Vietnam need to cooperate to promote green and sustainable growth, linking digital transformation with green transformation and developing a circular economy to effectively respond to climate change.
Minister Magnus Johannes Heunicke highly appreciated the Vietnamese Government's commitment and determination to achieve the goals of green growth, sustainable development and net zero emissions at COP 26, implementing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) Declaration, and Vietnam hosting the upcoming P4G Conference.
Affirming that green growth, digital transformation and green transformation are strategic priorities of Denmark, Minister Magnus Johannes Heunicke expressed his support and confidence that cooperation with Vietnam will promote the existing potential of the two countries in this field, contributing to promoting green transformation in the region and globally.
Denmark also supported Vietnam's proposals related to the P4G Conference; agreed on cooperation proposals between the two specialized ministries in the field of natural resources and environment.
Regarding international cooperation on the issue of plastic waste, Minister Magnus Johannes Heunicke proposed and Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha affirmed that Vietnam is ready to cooperate with other countries to jointly solve this problem and has a legal framework and many specific measures to reduce environmental pollution caused by plastic waste in Vietnam.
