From January to November 2025, the Center for Innovation and Application of Science and Technology (Department of Science and Technology of Hai Phong City) deployed the project "Application of comprehensive technical solutions to prevent and control major pests and diseases on dragon fruit trees" led by engineer Vu Van Tan.
Two models, each with an area of 1 hectare, were built in Nguyen Trai ward, including Mr. Nguyen Van Tien's household in Ho Seu area and Mr. Nguyen Van Tam's household in Trai Gao area.
Technical measures are applied synchronously according to the direction of integrated pest management (IPM): pruning, garden sanitation, organic fertilizer application, root treatment with biological products, use of pheromone traps, and combination of biological and chemical spraying when necessary.
The project aims to develop and perfect a technical process for comprehensive prevention of major pests and diseases on dragon fruit trees, helping to reduce the infection rate and improve fruit yield and quality.

Monitoring results showed that the rate of brown spot disease decreased by 86.36 - 93.75%, anthracnose disease decreased by 85.71 - 92.95% compared to the control garden; mealybug density and fruit fly damage rate decreased by more than 85%. Productivity reached 13.9 - 14.1 tons/ha, average profit was 126 million VND/ha/year.
The Center recommends continuing to monitor, improve and replicate the model to other localities, aiming to produce red-fleshed dragon fruit that meets VietGAP standards.
