Talking to students at the seminar Recruitment trends and career preparation (held at Van Lang University, Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of March 6), Ms. Pham Thi Phuong Khanh - marketing director of Navigos Group, a large corporation in the field of recruitment consulting - said that the 2 years of experience that many businesses require of candidates does not necessarily mean 2 years of full-time work at a previous company or organization.

Instead, 2 years of experience here means 2 years of "real-life experience", meaning that a candidate who has 2 years of practical experience in a job can meet this standard. Ms. Khanh said that many students have actively done internships since their 2nd and 3rd years, which will also be counted by businesses as the candidate's experience when recruiting.

In addition, according to Ms. Khanh, there are some businesses that require 2 years of experience in their recruitment ads but still leave opportunities open for potential candidates. In this case, graduates only need to prove to employers that they have the qualities and skills that the company needs. If suitable, candidates can still be hired even if they only have 1 year of experience.

"The most important thing in finding a job is understanding what people need and showing them that you have what they need," said Ms. Khanh.

Meanwhile, Ms. Le Duong Tuong Vy - Human Resources Administration Director of PNJP Company - emphasized that doing an internship in the right field during school time will often make a big difference for students in the eyes of employers.

Not only does it meet the requirement of 2 years of experience, according to Ms. Vy, this internship can also give students many new opportunities. Employers often look at the performance of interns, and if they meet the working skills, they will propose to become official employees.

In addition, Ms. Vy advises students to actively participate in groups in their field of study, such as communities of people working in human resources, marketing, etc. to learn more from their predecessors. Seminars from experts also help students gain more experience.

In particular, Ms. Vy noted that to conquer employers, students must first pass the CV round (resume - PV). In the CV round, a candidate may have to compete with hundreds, even thousands of other candidates. Therefore, in the CV, students need to know how to highlight, demonstrate their understanding of the job, the market and the skills required for the position they are applying for.
