According to records, after 7 years of operation, the ironwood bridge on the southern bank of the Huong River in Thuan Hoa District, Hue City, has a damaged bridge deck and many wooden slats are rotten.

In early February 2025, the Green Park Center of Thuan Hoa District, Hue City, prying up and replacing it with 52 new wooden bars. However, in recent days, this bridge has appeared many other damaged spots, causing many people to believe that although ironwood is a good type of wood, if soaked in water and exposed to harsh sunlight and harsh climates, it will still rot if not protected and covered. Another point is that these ironwood bars are imported from Africa, so the age of this type of wood is unknown.

Recently, the ironwood pedestrian bridge, designed close to the surface of the Huong River, has become a check-in location and a place for Hue people and tourists to walk and relax every day.
The bridge was built and put into operation in 2018, with a bridge deck of more than 380m long, 4m wide, and about 1m above the water surface. This is a pilot project under the detailed planning project of the two banks of the Huong River sponsored by KOICA with a total cost of more than 64 billion VND. Of which, the bridge deck area of over 2,440m² is paved with ironwood imported from South Africa with a cost of more than 5 billion VND.
