Recently, Hanoi was honored by Time Out magazine (UK) in the 2nd position in the list of 10 destinations with the best street food in Asia. According to this magazine, what makes Hanoi cuisine so special is the blend of tradition and modern creativity.
During their journey of discovery , many international tourists have found for themselves "strange yet familiar" dishes, contributing to creating an unforgettable experience. One of them is banh mi nem khoai, a unique variation of the traditional banh mi, which is arousing curiosity and interest for both locals and foreign friends.

Chris and Steph - a Canadian couple with a YouTube channel of more than 250,000 subscribers - have visited Hanoi many times to enjoy street food. In addition to familiar addresses, they especially love "hunting" for small, little-known restaurants.
While walking around Huong Vien, the two tried the spring roll bread at Co Nga bakery - a sidewalk shop that has been around for nearly 20 years. Unlike traditional sandwiches that usually contain meat, sausage, eggs, etc., the bread here combines fried spring rolls and fried potatoes, creating a very unique flavor.
Steph shared, the hot crispy bread crust, full filling with an interesting blend: the rich taste of potatoes, the crunchiness of spring rolls, a little bit of cream sauce and the slight spiciness of chili sauce and tomato sauce.

"The spring rolls here are made from fermented pork, coated in flour and then fried. The outside is crispy, the inside is soft, reminding me of fried meatballs. When combined with potatoes, the flavor becomes new, worth trying. When eaten alone, the flavor is also very good, not strong," Steph commented enthusiastically.
This dish is sold for 25,000 VND/loaf. Initially, this noodle shop served mainly students of the nearby Tran Nhan Tong High School, then gradually attracted more young people and office workers.
Many people watching the foreign guest's experience eating nem khoai bread also expressed surprise, saying that many Vietnamese people have not had the opportunity to try this creative dish.
Banh mi nem khoai not only impressed Chris and Steph. Suhyang - a famous Korean food YouTuber with over 716,000 followers - also tried this special dish during her trip to Hanoi.

At Dan To Banh Mi (32 Tran Nhat Duat), she enjoyed a loaf of bread including fried spring rolls, fried potatoes, sauce and chili sauce for 25,000 VND. Suhyang thinks this is a delicious, unique and cheap choice, worthy of being on the list of interesting street food experiences in the capital.
In addition to spring roll bread, the female YouTuber also tried grilled meat bread and many other dishes such as mixed pho, fried rice with beef and cucumber, but she still gave special praise to the bread dish with spring rolls and potatoes because of its uniqueness and affordable price.
