Lesson of love

On November 24, at many schools in Ho Chi Minh City, classes suddenly became special. Students came to school not only with books, but also with boxes of rice, boxes of noodles, blankets, clothes, notebooks... All of them were thinking about the people of the South Central and Central Highlands who are struggling to cope with flash floods and landslides.

At Bui Thi Xuan High School (Ben Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), since last weekend, the Board of Directors launched the program "Giving gifts - Sending love".

On Monday morning, the school turned the first meeting of the week into a "special lesson" on compassion and community responsibility.

The sight of students carrying cardboard boxes and plastic bags filled with necessities made the whole schoolyard bustling from very early on. The large bags were neatly packed and clearly labeled: “warm towels”, “school clothes”, “boys’ clothes for 12-15 years old”, “new notebooks and blankets”…

After the general activity, hundreds of teachers and students were busy gathering meaningful gifts for people in flood-affected areas.

Even though many boxes of supplies and necessities were so heavy that they required 2-3 people to carry them, the students, including female students, still enthusiastically joined forces, not afraid of difficulties.

Unlike usual days, students at many schools in Ho Chi Minh City today brought with them "luggage" full of love. Everyone "carried" their bags to school.

Within just 2 hours in the morning, students of Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (Saigon Ward) donated a large amount of goods: 150 boxes of noodles, nearly 1,000 kg of rice, along with many blankets, books, instant foods...

At other schools in Ho Chi Minh City such as Tay Thanh High School, Thu Duc, Quang Trung Middle School, Dang Tran Con Primary School, Le Dinh Chinh... this movement also took place enthusiastically this morning.

Tears of compatriots and the strength of solidarity

Many students did not stop at donating. Over the weekend, a group of students Chau Nguyen Minh Quan, To Tuan Anh, Huynh Minh Quan, Phuong Anh… from Bui Thi Xuan High School participated in supporting the work of sorting goods and items at the Youth Cultural House.

Chau Nguyen Phu Vinh (student of class 12A17) shared that, in recent days, following news about the Central region has made him feel very sad.

"While I'm sleeping peacefully here, many people out there have to stay up all night to escape the flood, losing all their homes and belongings. That's why we decided to join the relief efforts," the male student shared.

Although they have not been able to contribute much materially, the students said they have the youthful energy to help with sorting and transporting goods.

Sharing the same sentiment, To Tuan Anh said: "Seeing the serious flooding and many students of the same age not being able to go to school because of the storm and flood, I feel very sad."

Today, Tuan Anh brought two boxes of instant noodles and some good blankets from home to give to the people. Through this activity, he further understood the historical lesson about national solidarity.

"Everyone's consensus and joint efforts are the greatest strength to help us overcome difficulties," Tuan Anh expressed.

Before becoming a global citizen, one must live well, live kindly, and love one's fellow countrymen.

This meaningful activity is also an opportunity for teachers and schools to convey true life values to the young generation.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, Principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School, shares his message to students.

"I hope you will feel more deeply your responsibility towards the pain of your fellow Central region.

I want you to understand that, to become a global citizen, you must first be a Vietnamese citizen who lives well, lives kindly, and loves your fellow countrymen. Right now, the love of compatriots - the blood and flesh that connects our nation - needs to be kindled by the sharing of each young person."

Mr. Phu also expressed his pride in the students' proactive actions: "I really appreciate the students' proactive support in arranging and carrying the relief goods in time. Hopefully, through each good deed, the students will better understand their responsibility to the community and their homeland."

The principal also revealed that even though it was their final year of high school, 12th grade students still asked their families for permission to miss a few extra classes to participate in community activities.

This morning, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Van Hieu also launched a campaign to support flood victims.

Mr. Hieu emphasized: "I earnestly call on all managers, teachers, staff in the whole industry and students to continue to join hands to contribute and share the difficulties with the people of the Central region affected by natural disasters."

According to him, every contribution, no matter how small, will help to encourage people to overcome losses and repair damage to infrastructure; also for the benefit of students who are suffering many disadvantages in the flood, so that they can quickly go to school.
