After the metro train was officially put into operation in Ho Chi Minh City on December 22, a group of friends Truong Phuc Thoai Ngan, Vang Phi Truong, Le Viet Tinh and Bui Tien Khanh (fourth-year students majoring in biotechnology at the University of Natural Sciences - Ho Chi Minh City National University) decided to choose to travel to school by metro instead of motorbike.

The group shared that on average, they spend 4-6 days a week going to school at the District 5 campus to conduct experiments for their graduation thesis. Previously, the travel time by motorbike often took more than 1 hour, especially during rush hour, it could be up to 1 hour and a half.

Sometimes the group also uses the bus, but because the distance is long and the travel time is longer than by motorbike, every time they go to school they feel tired.

Today, taking the metro, the group traveled to the National University station by motorbike and boarded the train, the average time was about 10 minutes. This time included 5 minutes of travel from the National University dormitory B to the station and 5 minutes of waiting for the train.

After nearly 25 minutes on the train, the group arrived at Ben Thanh station. From here, the group continued to travel by bus number 56 to the school, more than 2.3km from the station.

Thoại Ngân said that the travel time was shortened, although not much, but she felt less tired, because every time she went to school, she had a headache thinking about which route to take to avoid traffic jams.

“After the 30-day free trial ends, I will register for a monthly card to make it more convenient for me to go to school,” Ngan shared.

Phi Truong said: “There are days when riding a motorbike is too tiring, so we choose to take the bus. However, traffic jams in Ho Chi Minh City often make the travel time very tiring. Now that there is a metro, I find it more convenient to travel.

While traveling by train, I often take the opportunity to admire the early morning city view, which helps me feel more refreshed. Traveling by train is quite suitable for me, it is more comfortable and less dusty than traveling by motorbike.

I took metro line 1 from Ho Chi Minh City National University station to Ben Thanh on the morning of December 24. Accompanying me were young people going to work, students going to school, and quite a few uncles and aunts from Di An ( Binh Duong ) and Bien Hoa (Dong Nai) who came to experience the first tram in Ho Chi Minh City.
