On May 31, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka (Japan), in collaboration with the Association of Vietnamese People in Fukuoka (AVF), opened the workshop "The importance of teaching and preserving Vietnamese language and culture for the Vietnamese community abroad."
The conference took place both in person and online, attracting the participation of thousands of delegates, Vietnamese language experts and Vietnamese communities in many countries around the world , contributing to the orientation of preserving Vietnamese language identity in the Vietnamese community abroad.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Vietnamese Consul General in Fukuoka Vu Chi Mai affirmed that after the success of the workshop "The importance of teaching Vietnamese language and culture to Vietnamese children in Kyushu (Japan)" in 2023, this is an important activity of the Consulate General on a global scale.
The workshop is a key activity in response to the Project "Day of Honoring Vietnamese Language in the Overseas Vietnamese Community in the period 2023-2030."
Ms. Vu Chi Mai said that in the Kyushu region, the workshop is part of a series of activities to preserve the Vietnamese language in the Vietnamese community in Japan, such as the Contest "Searching for Vietnamese Ambassadors Abroad in 2025"; activities to honor individuals and organizations that have made positive contributions to the movement to preserve and spread the Vietnamese language; building a Vietnamese bookshelf, etc.
The workshop is a valuable opportunity to share experiences, discuss effective teaching and learning models, connect domestic and internationaleducational resources, and jointly create a global Vietnamese language ecosystem, where Vietnamese is not only preserved, but also developed sustainably, creatively and integrated.

Speaking at the conference, Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Mai - Vice Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese affirmed that the Vietnamese community in Japan, as well as the Vietnamese community around the world, always shows its responsibility to the young generation, has many initiatives to organize practical activities to consolidate and develop movements to propagate and maintain the Vietnamese language; build and develop Vietnamese schools, classes, centers... to create a favorable environment for preserving and creating a Vietnamese cultural and language space.
Along with the above mentioned exciting and lively activities in Vietnamese language work, the workshop continues to create an important highlight in the activities responding to the day "Honoring Vietnamese language in the overseas Vietnamese community" to affirm the role of Vietnamese language in community life.
The leaders of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs especially commended the initiative to organize a course on teaching Vietnamese language and culture for Vietnamese children in Kyushu, Japan, organized by the Vietnamese Consulate General and the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka, affirming that this is a priceless gift for Vietnamese children living far from the Fatherland, who are still being nurtured in the care of traditional Vietnamese culture and language, and hoping that such meaningful initiatives will continue to be replicated throughout the world.
Speaking via online channel, Mr. Dinh Hoang Linh, Consul General of Vietnam in Khon Kaen (Thailand) emphasized the role of President Ho Chi Minh in laying the foundation for the Vietnamese language movement here.
Overseas Vietnamese in Thailand always preserve their culture, national language and respect Uncle Ho. On the occasion of the 135th anniversary of his birth, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Khon Kaen opened the "Vietnamese Bookshelf for the Community" in Udon Thani, contributing to promoting reading culture and responding to the Vietnamese Language Honor Day.
Meanwhile, Venerable Thich Duc Tuan, PhD, said that to create a fundamental change in teaching Vietnamese to children abroad, it is necessary to standardize and diversify the curriculum and learning materials, develop technology platforms and digital learning materials, improve the capacity and professionalize the teaching staff, strengthen policy advocacy and international cooperation, promote the language environment and community engagement.
For her part, Ms. Vu Thi Huynh Mai, Chairwoman of the Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in Ho Chi Minh City, highly appreciated the organization of this workshop, deeply acknowledging the enthusiasm, positivity and proactiveness of the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka in preserving and spreading national cultural values, through teaching and cultural exchange activities.
The Committee hopes to receive initiatives and experiences on integrating Vietnamese cultural education into the process of teaching Vietnamese language and culture to children.
The workshop heard Vietnamese and Japanese experts and speakers present many issues, including "Teaching Vietnamese to Vietnamese children and youth abroad - Situation and solutions;" "Situation of children in Japanese-Vietnamese married families and suggested measures to preserve Vietnamese;" "Approaches, principles of compiling documents and methods of teaching heritage Vietnamese to Vietnamese children in Japan;" "Some bases for compiling Vietnamese books for children in Japan based on comparing phonetics and writing;" "Learning about the situation of learning Vietnamese of children of new Vietnamese immigrants in Taiwan (China);" "Teaching Vietnamese and preserving Vietnamese culture abroad - Perspective from the work Luc Van Tien by Nguyen Dinh Chieu;" "Teaching Vietnamese to Vietnamese children living in Japan considering comparing Vietnamese-Japanese languages;" “Nurturing Self-Esteem and Coexistence through Vietnamese Language Education: Perspectives from Educational Practice.”

The workshop took place in a lively atmosphere, with presentations of many colors representing continents with many initiatives, solutions, recommendations and experiences in teaching Vietnamese and preserving Vietnamese culture, such as the experience of artist Van Duong Thanh on how to incorporate music and painting into the method of teaching Vietnamese language to second and third generation children in Sweden; the proposed solutions of Venerable, Doctor Thich Duc Tuan on the method and experience of teaching Vietnamese...
Within the framework of the workshop, the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka announced a project to compile Vietnamese language books for children in Japan and establish a “Network for Teaching Vietnamese Language and Vietnamese Culture Abroad” to connect lecturers, researchers, parents, and overseas Vietnamese communities around the world who are passionate about teaching and preserving Vietnamese language and culture; provide professional support on documents, methods, and Vietnamese language programs suitable for Vietnamese children abroad; contribute to spreading Vietnamese cultural values and promoting the image of the country and Vietnamese people to the world.
Immediately after the workshop, the Organizing Committee opened a training course on Vietnamese language teaching methods with the participation of leading Vietnamese language experts from Vietnam and Japan, lasting from the afternoon of May 31 to June 1./.
