This morning, June 1, at 30-10 Square (Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province), the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the People's Committee of Quang Ninh Province to organize a rally in response to World Environment Day (June 5) and launch the Month of Action for the Environment in 2025.
More than 1,000 central and local delegates attended the global event “Fighting Plastic Pollution”, launched by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Sending a message to the ceremony, Ms. Inger Andersen, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Director of UNEP, warned that plastic pollution is spreading at an alarming rate, seriously affecting human health and ecosystems. According to UNEP, if no control measures are taken, the amount of plastic leaked into the environment could increase by 50% by 2040.
Vietnam currently generates about 3.9 million tons of plastic waste each year, most of which is not properly treated.
The Vietnamese Government has issued a National Strategy on Plastic Waste Management with the goal of reducing 75% of marine plastic waste by 2030 and eliminating non-biodegradable plastic bags in modern retail systems.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Le Cong Thanh said: “Plastic pollution is no longer a problem of any single country, but a global threat, requiring urgent and synchronous action.”
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment hopes that the whole society will act together, from the government to businesses and people, to switch to a green lifestyle and circular economic model.

Quang Ninh (the host of this year's event) is promoting a green growth strategy. The goal is that by 2030, at least 30% of household waste in the area will be recycled or reused.
The movements “Green Saturday”, “Collecting plastic waste along the coast”, along with the campaigns “Ha Long Bay without plastic waste”, “Co To without plastic”… are contributing to improving the quality of the tourism environment.

At the event, many creative models were introduced such as: "Depositing trash and withdrawing money" by Quang Ninh Cement and Construction Company, recycled products of Green Life Ha Long Cooperative.
Also during this period, fishermen were given recycled life jackets, tourist boats on Ha Long Bay were given glass products to replace disposable plastic, and the Ha Long Bay Management Board received non-woven fabric bags to promote green tourism.

Today’s event affirms Vietnam’s determination in the fight against plastic pollution, while also sending a strong message of responsibility, innovation and community connection for a sustainable future.
