On May 9, information from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) of Dak Lak province, the province has just recorded a case of patient death suspected of being due to rabies. This is the third death due to rabies in the province in 2025.
The patient was identified as a female (born in 1954, residing in Ea Ral commune, Ea H'Leo district, Dak Lak province). Previously, on April 27, the patient had symptoms of epigastric pain and nausea, so her family took her to the Ea H'Leo District Medical Center for examination and treatment.

At 8:00 a.m. on April 30, the patient showed symptoms of high fever, fatigue, agitation, restlessness, fear of water, fear of wind, and inability to eat or drink, so the patient's family transferred him to the Central Highlands General Hospital for emergency treatment. There, the patient was diagnosed with rabies and gastric ulcer. At 2:00 p.m. the same day, the family asked to let the patient go home with a diagnosis of being discharged from the hospital for rabies monitoring, and a few days later, the patient died.
The patient’s family said that about 2 years ago, the patient was bitten on the hand by a cat but did not get a rabies vaccination. During the past 2 years, it is unclear whether the patient has been exposed to rabies or not.
