Terrible hailstorm in Pakistan, more than 100 casualties

At least 19 people were killed and more than 90 others injured in a devastating rainstorm in Pakistan over the weekend.

At least 19 people were killed and more than 90 others injured when severe weather, including strong winds and hail, hit several districts across Pakistan's eastern province on May 24 , the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said.

PDMA said many victims died when walls or roofs collapsed during the storm.

According to local reports, incidents involving fallen trees, billboards and damaged solar panels also occurred. The storm affected traffic across the province, with some roads temporarily closed as a safety precaution. Flights were also affected in the capital city of Lahore.

A video on social media showed panic among passengers as a private airline flight from Karachi to Lahore encountered severe turbulence as it attempted to land at Allama Iqbal International Airport.

Sources said the pilot had to abort the landing due to excessive turbulence and safely returned the plane to Karachi following air traffic control instructions.

"The plane returned safely to the port city of Karachi after receiving instructions from air traffic control, while several other flights were delayed due to strong winds," the source added.

PDMA urged people to take precautionary measures as unusual weather is expected to continue across the province until May 26.
