Toyota has given its flagship Crown Sedan a fresh update in Japan with two new special editions to mark the 70th anniversary of the iconic Crown. With the brand in continuous production since 1955, Toyota is marking its 70th anniversary by introducing the Crown Special Edition Z “The 70th”, available only in Japan. Meanwhile, the Limited Matte Metal version has a cooler, darker, matte finish.
The Crown 70th Anniversary Edition features a two-tone paint job, with Precious Metal on the upper half and Precious White Pearl or Precious Black Pearl on the lower half. The combination creates a luxurious look similar to Maybach and many current ultra-luxury cars. The sedan rides on 20-inch alloy wheels finished in matte black. Gray side decals with a small, subtle 70th emblem are optional. A commemorative logo with the Crown emblem is laser-engraved on the dashboard and engraved on the gear selector like jewelry. The 70th Anniversary logo also appears on the puddle lights, recycled leather carrying case for the manual and remote control key.
The Toyota Crown 70th Anniversary Edition's special Black Lustre interior with wood grain panels makes the car luxurious but not ostentatious. Along with the 70th Anniversary Edition, Toyota is also offering the Crown Special Edition Z Limited Matte Metal. This one comes in a dark gray with a matte finish that Toyota says is easy to clean. Like the 70th Anniversary, it rides on 20-inch matte black wheels and has the same Black Lustre interior, though without the jewel-like gearshift knob. Dealer-available accessories include headrests and a panoramic sunroof.
Both special editions can be equipped with one of two powertrains. One is a 2.5-liter self-charging hybrid engine and the other is an electric motor using a hydrogen fuel cell borrowed from the Mirai line. The price of the Toyota Crown Special Edition Z “The 70th” starts at 7,550,000 Yen (equivalent to 1.368 billion VND) for the hybrid version and 8,550,000 Yen (about 1.55 billion VND) for the FCEV. The Crown Special Edition Matte Metal version is a bit more expensive, starting at 8,100,000 Yen (equivalent to 1.46 billion VND) and increasing to 9,100,000 Yen (about 1.65 billion VND) with the hydrogen powertrain.
