Toyota recently confirmed that it will stop producing the Supra in March 2026, officially ending the fifth generation's life cycle after nearly 7 years on the market. This information also turns the newly launched Final Edition version into a farewell for the sports car considered a Japanese monument.
The fifth-generation Toyota Supra was introduced at the 2019 Detroit show, marking its revival after a hiatus since 2002. Toyota had "made its name" since the early 2010s with the FT-1 concept, fueling the expectations of the car enthusiast community before the official commercial product appeared.

The Supra MkV is a collaboration between Toyota and BMW, sharing the same platform as the Z4. The car is equipped with a 3.0L I6 turbocharged B58 engine and later added a 2.0L I4 turbocharged B48 version. Initially only an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission was available, later a 6-speed manual transmission was added exclusively for the I6 version, satisfying the group of customers who love the "pure driving experience".
In the US, the 2026 Supra Final Edition still uses the 382-horsepower B58 engine, accelerating from 0 to 96 km/h in 3.9 seconds, priced from $69,745. The Final Edition for Japan and Europe is tuned to be more powerful at 429 horsepower, limited to only 300 cars, expected to quickly become a collectible.

“We would like to sincerely thank our customers for their support over the years,” Toyota wrote in a statement. “The production stoppage will certainly affect some customers who are considering purchasing a vehicle.”
Despite the apparent death statement, Toyota has left the door open for a successor. As a cultural and technical icon, the Supra is unlikely to disappear forever. Many experts predict that Toyota may prefer a “quiet period” to refresh its strategy. It is possible that the next generation Supra will go the high-performance hybrid route, or even partially electrified.

With a history spanning generations MkI-MkIV, especially MkIV associated with JDM, drift and Fast & Furious culture, Supra is not just a car but it is a memory, a symbol of the era of Japanese sports cars fighting fairly with Europe and America.
The Supra MkV's departure closes one chapter, but also opens the possibility of a new one. The Supra may be retired, but it's unlikely to disappear from Toyota's DNA.
