According to data from Box Office Vietnam, as of early afternoon on September 11, "Red Rain" had reached 600 billion VND in revenue.
This was predicted by film experts. Many people thought the film could reach 700 billion VND, even expecting 1,000 billion VND.
Currently, “Red Rain” is the highest-grossing film in the history of the Vietnamese box office. The film continues to set many new records.
Director - Meritorious Artist Dang Thai Huyen - is the first director to achieve this milestone, and is also the first female director to have a film with record revenue.
"Red Rain" is the first state-produced film to have historical revenue, surpassing all previous high-grossing private films.
Previously, as of September 8, "Red Rain" had earned more than 566 billion VND, officially usurping Tran Thanh's "Mai" (551 billion VND).
The film's appeal has not diminished. During the first weekend of September, the film accounted for 73% of the total box office revenue with 82.86 billion VND on the weekend alone.
The capacity of screenings remains high, helping the film continuously set new records in the history of the Vietnamese box office.
What is special about "Red Rain" is the positive response of the audience to war-themed films, which have long been considered difficult to approach and selective in terms of viewers.
The film's resounding success has changed the perception of audience tastes and opened up a potential direction for Vietnamese cinema, especially war and historical films.
With the 600 billion VND milestone, “Red Rain” not only broke through in terms of revenue, but also proved an important milestone for Vietnamese cinema, surpassing all foreign films at the box office.
Director, Meritorious Artist Dang Thai Huyen, the film's director, said: "Revenue is an important factor. But the film "Red Rain" also has a more important political mission, which is to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2. We want the audience to come to the theater and learn more about the resistance war of our ancestors."
The film's script was inspired by the 81-day and night battle to protect Quang Tri Citadel in 1972. The film was released nationwide on August 21, produced by the People's Army Cinema Studio.
This is a rare state film released commercially.
