From last night to this morning, November 20, the rainfall in the eastern part of Gia Lai province (formerly Binh Dinh area) decreased significantly compared to the previous day. Specifically, from 7:00 p.m. on November 19 to 7:00 a.m. on November 20, the rainfall generally fluctuated below 100mm, only the My Thuan lake area, Ngo May commune had heavy rain, over 140mm.
Thanks to reduced rain combined with the An Khe - Kanak hydropower plant reducing flood discharge, creating conditions for floodwaters in the eastern region to recede.
Floodwaters in the Quy Nhon City area and the old Tuy Phuoc district have receded significantly compared to the peak on November 19.
In Tuy Phuoc commune, Ms. Le Thi Vinh Huong, Secretary of the Commune Party Committee, informed that at deeply flooded areas such as the Luat Le river dike, Dieu Tri area, Tuy Phuoc commune center... flood water has receded about 1 meter.
Many places have exposed roads, making travel in some flooded areas easier.
Since last night, the number of people calling for help has decreased compared to the night before. According to Ms. Huong, the old Tuy Phuoc district is the center of the flood, the people have a lot of experience in coping but because of that, they were subjective because they did not anticipate the depth of the flood like this time.
In this flood, in addition to the large flood, the water was so deep that many houses called for help at night. There were still households that refused to evacuate when the ward officials came to persuade them. When the water rose to 2.5m, they panicked and called for help. The police and militia had to rush into the flood to rescue the people, which was very dangerous.
In Quy Nhon Tay ward, Mr. Nguyen Quang Minh, Chairman of the ward People's Committee, confirmed that floodwaters at deep flooded areas of the ward had receded from 0.8-1m from last night to this morning.
Although the flood has subsided, the ward still encourages people to stay at the evacuation site for a while longer and not rush to return home because heavy rains may return and cause flooding.
Currently, the communes and wards in the flooded areas have begun to count and calculate the damage to people and property caused by this flood.
