Muong Lay town currently has 1,192 households with traditional stilt houses out of a total of more than 3,100 households, with a stilt house density of about 10.58 houses/km².
The density of stilt houses in Muong Lay is much higher than in localities with similar ethnic groups of the White Thai living in Quynh Nhai and Moc Chau districts (Son La); Nam Nhun and Phong Tho districts ( Lai Chau ).
The traditional stilt house architecture of the White Thai people has existed for hundreds of years, passed down from generation to generation. In Muong Lay, the White Thai people are attached to their traditional houses on the banks of the Da River.
This stilt house is made of wood, with two staircases located in the front and back of the house. The front staircase is the main staircase leading into the house. The back staircase is also called the secondary staircase and is located in the room near the kitchen to go up to the house. The number of rooms depends on each family, but must be an odd number.
