On November 21, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a notice, calling on all civilian aircraft operating in Venezuela to exercise "maximum caution" due to "the deteriorating security situation and increased military activities in the area".

"Threats can pose a potential risk to aircraft at all altitudes, including when flying through airspace, during take-off and landing phases, as well as at airports," the notice said.
The FAA warning comes as tensions between the US and Venezuela continue to escalate. The US move began in early September, when Washington launched a large-scale "anti-drug operation" in the Caribbean Sea and mobilized a large military force to the region. These developments raised concerns that the US was planning to overthrow the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
The military force that the US currently deploys near Venezuela includes the Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier strike group, at least eight surface warships, a special operations ship, an attack submarine, eight F-35B stealth fighters, AC-130 attack aircraft, transport aircraft, MQ-9 drones and more than 10,000 soldiers.
The US military has carried out raids targeting at least 21 suspected drug-smuggling boats and vessels in the Caribbean and Pacific , killing nearly 80 people. However, Washington has so far released no concrete evidence to prove that the targets were indeed drug-smuggling vessels.
In response to the US' increased military presence in the Caribbean, Venezuela has mobilized a large force of military personnel and military equipment to conduct exercises.
