Tensions flare at sash ceremony
The Miss Universe 2025 pageant began on November 2, but just days later, a series of controversies have tarnished the image of this prestigious beauty pageant.
The climax was the loud argument between Fátima Bosch and Mr. Nawat at the sash ceremony on November 4. According to US Today, Mr. Nawat was said to have spoken harshly to the Mexican beauty when she refused to participate in a photo shoot for a sponsor.

The Thai businessman was accused of using derogatory language before Fatima Bosch stood up and left the hall. Shortly after, the reigning Miss Universe and several other contestants also walked out, causing the event to be halted midway.
Speaking after the incident, Fátima Bosch said she had no regrets about speaking out. “I am stronger than ever. I have a purpose and I have a lot to say. We live in the 21st century and I am not a doll who only knows how to dress up, beautify and change clothes according to other people’s wishes. I entered the contest to speak the thoughts of all women in the world who are fighting for their own goals,” she said.
Wave of support for Mexican beauty
Immediately after the incident, the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) issued a statement reprimanding Mr. Nawat, saying that his actions "disregarded the value of women."
“Mr. Nawat’s words are offensive, disrespectful and completely contrary to our mission - to honor, protect and empower women,” the MUO president stressed.

The incident between Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil and beauty Fátima Bosch not only caused a stir within the contest, but also attracted attention from the international entertainment and fashion world.
A series of international media channels such as People, New York Post, Hola Magazine, Kursiv Media... all simultaneously reported and criticized Mr. Nawat's offensive behavior.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell left a meaningful comment: “You all kept your dignity, and the other one is burying his reputation.”
Miss Universe 2023 Sheynnis Palacios (Nicaragua) also expressed a strong opinion: “Since the beginning of this year's competition, we have woken up to surprises every day. Miss Universe is a place to honor the voice, talent and influence of women - girls who believe in the ability to change society.”
She condemned Mr. Nawat’s public humiliation of the contestants, saying it was unacceptable: “The contestants are not just contestants, but also women who are representing their country, their dreams and their own identity.”

Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt also expressed her agreement: “I fully support all the brave women who stood up and walked out of the sash ceremony to protest the unacceptable treatment at the Miss Universe 2025 pageant in Thailand.”
“Standing up for yourself is not easy, but it is an important act to protect your values and show your strength. When you are brave enough, your voice will be loud enough to be heard,” wrote the reigning Miss Universe, Kjær Theilvig, on social media.
In the face of criticism, Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil apologized, saying the incident stemmed from a language barrier. “If anyone felt hurt or uncomfortable, I sincerely apologize. Everything could have been a misunderstanding,” he said.
