Male singer with 4 billion views hit suddenly 'transforms' into Chi Pheo

Having caused a stir with the song "Continuing the story of peace", male singer Dong Hung attracted attention when he unexpectedly transformed into Chi Pheo in the musical of the same name.

After attracting strong attention with his profound performance of the song " Writing the continuation of the story of peace" on the occasion of the 30/4 Great Festival, singer Dong Hung continues to bring a completely different image: transforming into Chi Pheo in the purely Vietnamese musical "Chi Pheo's dream".

With an emotional performance on stage, Dong Hung demonstrated his ability to transform in art, surprising and delighting the audience.

Dong Hung and Hoang Thai Phuong, daughters of Meritorious Artist Thanh Thanh Hien, transformed into Chi Pheo - Thi No.

Inspired by the literary masterpiece Chí Phèo by Nam Cao, the musical The Dream of Chí Phèo offers a new perspective on this famous character. It is still Chí Phèo with a difficult background, abandoned by society, but this time, the character is portrayed more softly, more humanely. No longer a drunkard who curses, Chí Phèo in the play is a person with a soul, longing to live and love - a Chí Phèo who dares to dream.

Taking on the male lead role, Dong Hung brings a Chi Pheo who is both thorny and dreamy. Opposing him is Thi No – played by Hoang Thai Phuong, daughter of Meritorious Artist Thanh Thanh Hien – with innocence, naivety but compassion. The harmonious combination of the two young artists helps the love story between the two characters become gentle, romantic and easy to touch people's hearts.

Different from traditional approaches, director Duong Cam and screenwriter Dinh Tien Dung chose a new way of telling: honoring the pure love between Chi Pheo and Thi No as a bright spot of humanity amidst the darkness of reality. Not falling into the obsession of feudal society or dark psychological developments, Giac Mo Chi Pheo breathes new life into the classic literary work - gentle, youthful but no less profound.

As the composer of all 19 songs dedicated to the play, musician Duong Cam said: " We want the audience to feel that this is not just a musical but an emotional journey. The combination of modern music with folk materials brings a unique color - new but still imbued with Vietnamese identity."

The songs in Chi Pheo's Dream not only play a leading role but also serve as the character's inner language, helping to clearly depict psychological and emotional changes. Dong Hung, with his strong and expressive voice, successfully conveyed the deep desires of Chi Pheo - a man who seemed to have no chance of love, but relived a simple dream with Thi No.

After three successful performances and receiving many positive responses, the musical returns with two special performances. Before officially opening to the public, Giac Mo Chi Pheo made its mark at the 2024 National Music and Dance Festival, winning 8 prestigious awards, including the Outstanding Performance Award and the Outstanding Musician Award.
