Vietnam needs 2.5 million people to meet the growing demand of information technology

On the morning of May 27, in Hanoi , the Vietnam-Asia DX Summit 2025 organized by the Vietnam Software and Information Technology Services Association (VINASA) opened.

The event took place over 2 days, May 27-28, with the theme "Mastering Technology - Breakthrough, Growing".

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa - Chairman of VINASA - General Director of FPT Corporation - said: "In the past 5 years, the entrance score for university information technology (IT) has always been in the top, showing the attraction of the industry to young people.

However, with more than 50,000 businesses and about 1.2 million IT workers today, this number is still modest. According to estimates, we need at least 2.5 million people to meet growth needs."

Never before in the history of development have science and technology (S&T) and digital transformation (DCT) been placed in such a central position as they are today in the national development strategy. Resolution 57 of the Politburo is an important first step, or can be called a "midwife" for the development of S&T and innovation (I&T) enterprises, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa affirmed.

Vietnamese digital technology enterprises grow

In the context of strong global digital transformation, Vietnamese digital technology enterprises are gradually affirming their position with the spirit of mastering technology, creating Vietnamese intellectual products and solutions, and constantly innovating to reach out to regional and international markets.

With a foundation of young, flexible human resources and aspirations for global integration, Vietnamese enterprises are becoming a pioneering force in creating a digital future, making an important contribution to the goal of developing a digital economy accounting for 50% of GDP by 2045 in the spirit of Resolution 57.

This is a golden time for Vietnamese technology enterprises to break through, master strategic technologies, take advantage of government support policies, exploit the potential digital transformation market and reach out to the world.

The development of Vietnamese digital technology enterprises over the past 20 years is an impressive story. By early 2025, Vietnam will have over 54,500 digital technology enterprises. Not only has the number increased, but the capacity of the enterprises has also been affirmed. Some large corporations such as Viettel, FPT, VNPT, MISA, One Mount have taken on the task of investing and developing core technology products to solve some of the country's major problems.

The aspiration of Vietnamese enterprises to master technology comes at the right time when the domestic digital transformation and technology transformation market is booming, opening up huge development space.

According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, the rate of enterprises using digital platforms increased from 30% (2021) to nearly 70% (2024), and digital government is developing strongly with more than 95% of level 4 public services. The digital economy accounts for about 16.5% of GDP in 2024, aiming for 20% of GDP by 2025.

Strengthening cooperation in digital transformation between Vietnam and Asia

Asia-Pacific is currently the region leading the growth of the digital economy. According to a report by IDC, the Asia-Pacific region is expected to spend more than 1,000 billion USD on digital transformation by 2025.

Countries in the Asian region are prioritizing a number of key technologies to drive economic growth and digital transformation such as AI, green and smart technology, 5G and network infrastructure, and blockchain.

Vietnam currently has more than 1,000 digital technology enterprises exporting services to major markets such as the US, Japan, Europe, South Korea, and Australia, generating billions of dollars in revenue each year.

According to Resolution 57 of the Politburo, Vietnam aims to be in the top 3 in ASEAN and top 50 globally in digital competitiveness and e-government development, with 5 enterprises reaching the world level by 2030 and 10 enterprises by 2045.
